Using AI to edit Onshape Projects

Carlos builds mobile robots for warehouse inspection. His team moved off its Onshape plan, but the next robot needs a compute board for its vision software. The board needs a place on the robot base, and the base must not change.

Build log

08:30 — Describe the board. Carlos opens the robot base in Flux and gives the agent the board and its mount:

"We are adding a compute board to this base: 100 x 80 mm, 1.6 mm thick, four M3 holes on a 92 x 72 mm rectangle. Model the board at production fidelity, like a real single-board computer: green solder mask, a finned aluminum heatsink on the processor, two stacked USB-A ports and an RJ45 Ethernet jack on one short edge, a 40-pin header along one long edge, and a USB-C power port. Add an aluminum mounting plate for it on top of the base, on four standoffs, fasten the board to the plate with four M3 screws, and export a STEP file."

09:00 — Model the board. Flux models the 100 × 80 mm board with its heatsink, two USB-A ports, the Ethernet jack, the 40-pin header and the USB-C port.

10:00 — Mount the board. Flux adds an aluminum plate on four standoffs on top of the lid. Four M3 screws on the 92 × 72 mm rectangle hold the board to the plate. The robot base, its wheels and its lid screws do not change.

Before: robot base with a flat lid. After: the same base with a compute board on a raised aluminum plate on four standoffs.
Before and after the change, in the same Flux view.

The board and the base are now in one assembly. Carlos can see where the Ethernet and USB cables leave the board, and he can check that the ports clear the lid screws. The next step is the board itself: schematic, layout and parts, in the same Flux project.

The board and its mount took one morning. Build your next robot update in Flux.
