Using AI to edit Inventor Projects

Wei supports a microscopy lab. The department cut its Inventor license pool. Then the lab changed to a new sample holder that needs two posts instead of one. The holder plate must still bolt to the microscope stage at the same two holes.

A short how-to

  1. Say what replaces what: two posts instead of one boss.
  2. Give the sizes: post diameter, height, screw clearance hole, and spacing.
  3. Say how the posts join, and where they stand free.
  4. Say what must not move: the two mounting holes.
"Our new sample holder needs two posts instead of one. Replace the single boss with two separate round posts, each 8 mm outside diameter and 25 mm tall, with a 1.7 mm clearance hole for an M1.6 screw. Put them 20 mm apart center to center, so there is a 12 mm open gap between them. Join them only at the bottom, with a web 4 mm thick and 8 mm tall. Above the web, each post stands free. Extend the flange so both posts sit on it. Keep the two 4.5 mm mounting holes where they are. Then export a STEP file."

Two posts, one open gap

Flux replaced the boss with two 8 mm posts, 20 mm apart, each with a 1.7 mm clearance hole. A 4 mm web joins the posts at the bottom, and the 12 mm gap above it stays open. Flux extended the flange under both posts. The two mounting holes did not move.

Before: one post on the bracket. After: two separate posts with a 12 mm gap, joined by a web at the bottom.
Before and after the change, in the same Flux view.

Next, Wei can add the stage electronics board to the same Flux project and check that the new posts clear it. Flux exported the bracket as a STEP file for the lab's machinist. The change took hours, not weeks.
