Nadia designs robot-arm end effectors. Her Creo contract was not renewed. Now the team wants a larger gripper, with a pilot bore and a wider screw pattern. The mount must change for it, but the arm side of the mount must stay the same.

One side changes, one side stays

Mount sideBeforeAfter
Gripper side (web)70 mm tall, four M3 holes on a 16 mm square80 mm tall, 25 mm pilot bore, four M4 holes on a 40 mm square
Arm side (base)Four M5 holes on a 40 mm squareNo change

Nadia tells Flux:

"We are replacing the gripper with a larger one. Make the vertical web 80 mm tall. Add a 25 mm pilot bore for the new gripper, with four M4 clearance holes on a 40 x 40 mm square around it. Put the center of the bore 50 mm above the bottom of the base, so the lower M4 screws are well above the base screws. Use M5 base screws that end 2 mm above the top of the base. No screw may touch another screw or come within 5 mm of it. Check this before you finish. Make the two gussets full height. Keep the arm side the same: the base and its four M5 holes do not change. Then export a STEP file."

The new gripper face

Flux made the web 80 mm tall and cut the 25 mm pilot bore 50 mm above the bottom of the base. It added four M4 clearance holes on a 40 × 40 mm square around the bore and made both gussets full height. The base and its four M5 holes did not change, so the mount still fits the arm.

Flux then checked all 28 screw pairs in the assembly. The smallest gap between two screws is 21 mm, and each M5 screw ends 2 mm above the base.

Before: original web with a small four-hole pattern. After: taller web with a 25 mm pilot bore, four M4 screws on a 40 mm square well above the base screws, and full-height gussets.
Before and after the change, in the same Flux view.

The pilot bore also gives the gripper cable a path through the mount to the robot's control board. Next, Nadia can add the control board to the same Flux project and check the cable path to it.

Flux exported the revised mount as a STEP file. The change took a few hours. Make your next end-effector change in Flux.
