STM32F411 Footprint Design

Autopilot
Work completed
  • Fully populated the schematic with all major subsystems: STM32 BlackPill module, 24 V→3.3 V buck converter, reverse-polarity Schottky diode, ULN2803A driver, CAN transceiver, Schmitt trigger buffer, TVS protection diodes, resistor-divider networks, decoupling capacitors, test-point terminals, and all I/O connectors.
  • Made net connections for power rails, digital inputs (divider→TVS→Schmitt→MCU), digital outputs (MCU→ULN2803A→flyback diodes→load), and CAN termination resistor.
  • Performed schematic reviews—added missing decoupling caps and pull-resistors, upgraded resistor and capacitor ratings—and resolved all flagged air-wires.
  • Assigned production-grade footprints (0805/1206 for passives), added mounting holes near corners, and placed connectors and test points at board edges.
Tasks I couldn’t do
  • Wiring the SWD header pins (SWDIO, SWCLK, NRST) to the STM32 BlackPill.
  • Connecting the CAN transceiver’s TXD/RXD pins to the STM32.
  • Retrying the SWD header net connections.
  • Setting up a 4-layer board stackup (inner power/ground).
  • Measuring component extents and resizing the board outline.
  • Applying ground-fill to the ground planes.
Success criteria status

Table

CriterionStatus
Validated BlackPill module with SWD, DI, DO, and CAN circuitryPartial (SWD/CAN nets open)
24 V→3.3 V stage with protection and decouplingMet
Protected 0–24 V inputs and outputs with TVS, dividers, Schmitt, flyback, test points, LEDsMet
CAN interface with selectable termination and TVS protectionPartial (termination/TVS done, TX/RX unconnected)
PCB layout with clear labeling, accessible test points, mounting holesPartial (placement done, ground plane/stackup pending)
Readily sourced parts and production-grade design practicesMet
Recommended next step
Finish the remaining net connections for the SWD header and CAN transceiver. Once all nets are fully wired, we can finalize the PCB stackup, board outline, and ground-fill to complete the layout phase.
