Part Audit

I’ll audit the part metadata, find and attach the official Microchip datasheet if needed, then cross-check the symbol, footprint, and pin descriptions and document any mismatches.
I’m reading the part’s current terminals and package geometry now; next I’ll compare them against the manufacturer’s package and pin tables.

The part is a Microchip PIC16F18446 in the extended-temperature, 20-lead PDIP ordering variant. The official datasheet is PIC16(L)F18426/46 Data Sheet DS40001985C.
Current metadata Ordering-code interpretation
  • PIC16F18446: 8-bit PIC microcontroller, 28 KB Flash family member.
  • E: extended temperature range, -40°C to +125°C.
  • /P: 20-lead, 300 mil body PDIP package.
Key specifications
  • Architecture: enhanced mid-range 8-bit PIC MCU.
  • Maximum clock: 32 MHz.
  • Operating voltage for PIC16F variant: 2.3 V to 5.5 V.
  • Program memory: 28 KB / 16K instructions.
  • RAM: 2048 bytes.
Audit complete. I attached and verified the official Microchip datasheet; the 20-pin PDIP footprint and pin-number mapping match, but pin 4’s electrical type, VSS typing, canonical MPN formatting, broad part type, and missing pin descriptions need correction.

Symbol mismatches and quality issues
  1. Pin 4 electrical type is incorrect. RA3 is the device's input-only GPIO (with MCLR/VPP functions), but the terminal is marked Bi-Directional. It should be represented as Input or Programmable rather than bidirectional.
  2. Pin 20 VSS is typed Power In. A dedicated Ground pin type would be more semantically accurate and improve ERC behavior.
  3. Pin descriptions are missing on all terminals. No Pin Description properties are present. At minimum, each pin should describe its primary GPIO/power role; detailed alternate-function descriptions would substantially improve searchability and usability.
  4. Alternate-function labels are incomplete. The primary names and programming functions are sufficient for basic use, but RA4/RA5 oscillator labels and most peripheral alternate functions are omitted. Because the MCU uses Peripheral Pin Select, listing every peripheral on the symbol may be undesirable; concise descriptions are preferable.
  5. The rendered symbol otherwise has the correct number of terminals and correct package pin numbering.
Footprint audit
The footprint is a 20-pin through-hole DIP with:
  • 2.54 mm pin pitch — matches the datasheet's 0.100-inch basic pitch.
  • Approximately 7.938 mm row spacing — suitable for the 300 mil PDIP family and within the package envelope.
  • 20 numbered plated through-hole pads with rectangular pin 1 marker — correct topology and orientation.
  • Fabrication body approximately 6.604 mm wide by 25.908 mm long — consistent with the datasheet nominal molded body dimensions of 6.35 mm width and 26.162 mm length.
  • 0.83 mm drills and 1.338 mm copper pads — plausible IPC-style lands for the specified lead dimensions.
No pad-number or pin-to-pad mapping mismatch was found. The footprint asset name (DIP793W45P254L2590H533Q20) and project description are cryptic; the package should be clearly identified in properties as PDIP-20, 300 mil, 2.54 mm pitch.
  1. Change the MPN property to canonical PIC16F18446-E/P while retaining the URL-safe project slug/name if required.
  2. Change Part Type to Microcontroller.
  3. Replace the description with: 8-bit PIC microcontroller, 28 KB Flash, 2 KB RAM, 12-bit ADC, 32 MHz, 2.3-5.5 V, extended temperature, PDIP-20.
  4. Add package metadata: PDIP-20, 300 mil (7.62 mm nominal row spacing), 2.54 mm pitch.
  5. Change pin 4 from Bi-Directional to Input/Programmable and pin 20 from Power In to Ground.
  6. Add meaningful pin descriptions for all 20 terminals.
