DF40C-100DS-0.4V(58) Part Review
Scope
Reviewed available project part information, official Hirose web information, datasheet/spec extraction, schematic terminal metadata, and footprint geometry exposed by Flux.
Project metadata reviewed
The Datasheet URL property was not empty, so I did not overwrite it. The official Hirose URLs found for the same exact CL number are:

- Pad 99 nominal coordinate: x = +9.8 mm, y = +1.54 mm
- Pad 100 nominal coordinate: x = +9.8 mm, y = -1.54 mm

- Recommended metal mask thickness: 120 µm
- Lead pad stencil opening ratio: 80%
Schematic symbol check
Observed schematic contents:
- 100 terminal components, numbered 1 through 100.
- Each terminal has a matching
Pin Number property equal to its designator.
- Odd-numbered terminals are on the left side of the symbol; even-numbered terminals are on the right side.
- Pin type is set to
Unspecified for every terminal.
- No individual pin functional names/descriptions are present.
Assessment:
- Pin count matches the datasheet: PASS.
- Numbering coverage 1–100 matches the datasheet: PASS.
- Generic terminal pin type is acceptable for a passive mezzanine connector: PASS / low concern.
- Pin descriptions are missing; because the connector contacts are not function-specific, this is not an electrical mismatch, but adding descriptions such as
Contact 1 … Contact 100 would improve library clarity.
Footprint check
Observed footprint data:
- 100 PCB pad nodes exist, numbered 1 through 100.
- Top-layer SMD pad nodes are present.
- Silk/fab outline appears around approximately ±11.3 mm by ±1.44 mm, consistent with a ~22.6 mm × ~2.88/3.38 mm connector body reference.
- Example pad geometry exposed by Flux:
- Pad 1 position: x = -0.0098, y = -0.00154, size = 0.0002 × 0.0007, layer Top
- Pad 2 position: x = -0.0098, y = +0.00154, size = 0.0002 × 0.0007, layer Top
- Pad 3 position: x = -0.0094, y = -0.00154, size = 0.0002 × 0.0007, layer Top
- Pad 99 position: x = +0.0098, y = -0.00154, size = 0.0002 × 0.0007, layer Top
- Pad 100 position: x = +0.0098, y = +0.00154, size = 0.0002 × 0.0007, layer Top
Assessment:
- Pad count 100: PASS.
- Pad numbering increments by 0.4 mm nominal if values are interpreted as meters displayed in mm fields: likely PASS by source intent.
- Pad nominal size corresponds to 0.20 mm × 0.70 mm if interpreted as meters displayed in mm fields: likely PASS by source intent.
- Row spacing corresponds to 3.08 mm if interpreted as meters displayed in mm fields: likely PASS by source intent.
- Pin-row sign appears inverted versus the KiCad convention extracted from datasheet corroboration: current footprint has odd pads on negative Y and even pads on positive Y; reference convention has odd pads on positive Y and even pads on negative Y. This may be only a 180°/mirror convention issue if the footprint’s pin-1 marker and body orientation are consistent, but it should be visually checked against the official Hirose drawing before publication.
- Significant unit-display concern: pad coordinates/sizes are exposed as
0.0098, 0.00154, 0.0002, 0.0007 with unit: mm. If Flux interprets these literally as millimeters, pads are 1000× too small and nearly invisible. The silk outline appears correctly scaled in mm, so this likely indicates a unit conversion/display inconsistency or an actual footprint scale bug. This is the highest-risk finding.
Mismatches / issues flagged
- Datasheet property is not the official Hirose URL. It points to an uploaded PDF copy. Since it is populated, I did not overwrite it automatically, but the official Hirose spec/product URLs are listed above.
- Footprint pad unit/scale ambiguity. Exposed pad rules show values 1000× smaller than the expected mm dimensions. If literal, the footprint pads are wrong. This should be fixed or confirmed in the footprint editor.
- Possible row polarity / Y-axis inversion. Observed odd/even rows are opposite the extracted KiCad/datasheet convention. Confirm against the Hirose 2D drawing/pin-1 orientation.
- No pin descriptions. All terminals are unnamed/generic. Not electrically wrong for a connector, but library quality would improve with descriptions like
Contact 1 … Contact 100.
- Part properties are sparse. Useful official specs such as Connector Type, Connector Gender, Connector Pitch, Connector Positions, Connector Rows, Rated Current, Rated Voltage, Operating Temperature, and CL number are not populated as structured properties.
Recommendation
Before using this published part in a design, fix or verify the footprint pad units and row orientation. After that, consider replacing the current uploaded datasheet URL with the official Hirose spec sheet URL or adding the official product URL as a Reference Design URL / Product Info URL, then enrich the part properties and pin descriptions.
