Phoenix Contact Part Audit

I’m reading the current part definition and geometry first, then I’ll compare it against the official manufacturer drawing.
The official datasheet URL was already present, so no property edit was needed. I found several metadata/documentation gaps and am doing a final read-back of the symbol and footprint before closing.

Official designation: MKDS 1,5/ 2-5,08 BK Manufacturer: Phoenix Contact
Audit complete. The official Phoenix Contact datasheet URL was already correctly populated, and the footprint’s 2 pads, 5.08 mm pitch, 1.3 mm holes, and body outline match the datasheet.
The major mismatch is the project description: it incorrectly identifies the part as a green, pluggable MSTB header; it is a black, fixed MKDS 1,5 screw terminal block rated 17.5 A / 400 V. Metadata also mislabels PCB mounting as “Screw,” and the symbol lacks passive pin types and descriptions. Full results: Part Audit Report.

Symbol Review
  • Two terminals are present and numbered 1 and 2, matching the two physical positions.
  • Both terminals use Pin Type: Unspecified.
  • No terminal function descriptions are present.
  • The numerical terminal naming is acceptable for a non-polarized two-position terminal block, but Passive pin types and descriptions such as “Terminal position 1” / “Terminal position 2” would be clearer and improve ERC behavior.
Footprint Review
  • Two circular plated through-hole pads are present.
  • Pad-center spacing is 5.08 mm, matching the datasheet.
  • Hole diameter is 1.30 mm, matching the manufacturer PCB drawing.
  • Copper pad diameter is 1.95 mm, giving a 0.325 mm radial annular ring. The official drawing specifies the hole and pin section but does not prescribe copper pad diameter, so this is not an evidenced mismatch.
  • The body/fabrication outline is 10.16 × 9.8 mm, matching the official width and length.
  • The footprint contains model/footprint assets and a courtyard larger than the body.
Mismatches and Gaps
Critical: project description identifies the wrong connector family and specifications
The current project description calls this a pluggable COMBICON MSTB header, says it mates with MSTB 2,5 plugs, describes a green housing, and lists ratings such as 16 A / 320 V and an operating range of −40°C to +105°C. This conflicts with the official part:
  • The actual device is a fixed MKDS 1,5 PCB terminal block, not an MSTB pluggable header.
  • The housing is black, not green.
  • The official headline rating is 17.5 A, 400 V (III/2).
  • The wire connection is an integral screw tension-sleeve terminal, not a plug-in mating interface.
This description should be replaced because it can cause incorrect mating, sourcing, and design decisions.
Metadata issues
  1. Mount = Screw is misleading. “Screw” describes the conductor connection; PCB mounting is through-hole wave soldering.
  2. Package / case metadata is absent. It should describe a 2-position, 5.08 mm-pitch THT terminal block.
  3. Dedicated ratings are absent. Current, voltage, pitch, positions, rows, and connector type are primarily embedded in prose rather than structured properties.
  4. Part Type = Connector is broad but not wrong. A more specific PCB terminal block classification would improve discoverability if supported.
Symbol issues
  1. Pin descriptions are missing.
  2. Pin types are Unspecified rather than Passive.
Footprint caveat
The available official drawing confirms pitch, hole diameter, body dimensions, pin section, and solder-pin length. It does not directly specify copper land diameter, courtyard expansion, or silkscreen clearance, so those details cannot be declared manufacturer-verified from this datasheet alone.
Overall Assessment
The MPN, manufacturer, datasheet URL, terminal count/numbering, pad count, pitch, PCB-hole diameter, and body outline are consistent with the official documentation. The main problem is the incorrect project description, followed by misleading/incomplete metadata and missing symbol pin descriptions/types. No symbol or footprint geometry was changed during this audit.

2-Position PCB Terminal Block (COMBICON Pluggable Header) – 2-position pluggable PCB terminal block header designed for industrial automation, power supplies, control systems, instrumentation, HVAC equipment, IoT devices, and embedded electronics. Part of the Phoenix Contact COMBICON MSTB Series, it features a 5.08 mm pitch, vertical through-hole PCB mounting, and plug-in wire-to-board connection for quick field wiring and maintenance. Rated for 16 A and 320 V (UL) / up to 630 V (IEC, application dependent), it accepts compatible MSTB 2,5 pluggable terminal plugs. Constructed with tin-plated copper alloy contacts and a green UL94 V-0 polyamide housing, it provides secure, reliable electrical connections in demanding industrial environments. Designed for solder termination, it operates over a −40°C to +105°C temperature range and is ideal for modular embedded and industrial power connections.
