Remaining: add and datasheet-verify the AQY212EH interface and JST connector, update the block diagram/firmware/BOM, run ERC, and prove isolation of HP_PWR_SW_A/B. No placement, routing, DRC, or manufacturing work was performed.
A low-voltage control and monitoring carrier for an official Espressif ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-N8R8 hardware revision v1.1. It supports user controls, an external OLED, temperature sensing, indicators, and expansion. It does not electrically bridge the MacBook and HP motherboard internal buses.
Intended Use
Prototype carrier board for the ATLAS X modular dual-computer system. The DevKit is removable and communicates with the Mac through its own accessible Micro-USB connectors. Revision A is intended for beginner-friendly assembly and validation.
What the Device Should Do
Host a removable ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1 v1.1 on two 22-pin female headers.
Read three active-low momentary buttons with external pull-ups and RC debounce.
Read an externally powered 3.3 V DS18B20 probe.
Provide true 3.3 V POWER indication and GPIO-controlled STATUS indication.
Expose I2C and selected safe GPIO expansion.
Provide 3V3, DevKit 5V/VBUS if available, and GND test points.

Controller
Official ESP32-S3-DevKitC-1-N8R8, hardware v1.1, populated with ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8R8. Carrier uses the official 2 x 22 header geometry. Both onboard Micro-USB connectors must remain accessible.
Power
The DevKit and peripherals are powered only through a DevKit Micro-USB input. No additional USB connector, charger, battery, HP power control, or alternate supply path is included. External fan power is absent.
User Interface
OLED connector pin order: GND, VCC, SDA, SCL.
Buttons connect GPIO to GND and use external pull-up plus RC debounce; firmware debounce is also required.
POWER LED is connected to 3V3 through a current-limiting resistor.
STATUS LED is controlled by GPIO15 through a current-limiting resistor.
Temperature Sensor
Three-pin connector: GND, 3V3, DATA. DS18B20 uses externally powered mode and a 4.7 kohm pull-up from DATA to 3V3.
Expansion
I2C header: GND, 3V3, SDA, SCL.
General header: GND, 3V3, GPIO10, GPIO11, GPIO12, GPIO13, FAN_PWM_FUTURE, FAN_TACH_FUTURE.
FAN_PWM_FUTURE and FAN_TACH_FUTURE connect only to the expansion header.

USB-powered only. No battery or autonomous-runtime requirement applies. Peripheral loading must remain within the official DevKit 3.3 V regulator capability.

Clear silkscreen for every connector, polarity, signal, and ATLAS X - REV A.
No routing or manufacturing export is authorized at this stage.
Firmware-Relevant Hardware Requirements
Initialize I2C on GPIO8/GPIO9.
Configure GPIO4/GPIO5/GPIO6 as active-low inputs; use firmware debounce in addition to hardware RC filtering.
Configure GPIO16 for DS18B20 1-Wire.
Drive GPIO15 for STATUS LED according to final LED polarity.
Leave GPIO17/GPIO18 unused unless a future external fan daughterboard is installed.
Physical Design Expectations
DevKit antenna at the carrier edge with the official keepout free of copper, traces, and components on both layers.
Both DevKit Micro-USB connectors mechanically accessible.
OLED mounted removably on a 1 x 4 2.54 mm socket and two M3 nylon spacers; exact connector and hole coordinates must come from official V1.3 KiCad/STEP files.

Important Design Decisions
Fan circuitry is completely omitted from Revision A.
GPIO17 and GPIO18 are reserved only as future fan-interface labels on the expansion connector.
Native USB GPIO19/GPIO20 are preserved.
No populated carrier I2C pull-ups unless verification of OLED V1.3 and expected expansion devices shows they are needed. Optional DNP footprints may be included.
POWER LED indicates the actual 3.3 V rail and is not firmware-controlled.
GPIO Exclusions
Do not use GPIO0, GPIO3, GPIO45, or GPIO46 because they are strapping-related. Do not use GPIO19/GPIO20, GPIO35-GPIO37, GPIO38, GPIO39-GPIO42, or GPIO43/GPIO44. GPIO7 remains spare.
Assumptions and Items Requiring Confirmation
Exact official DevKit v1.1 mechanical drawing and header coordinates must be verified before PCB placement.
Exact OLED SKU 333100 V1.3 connector and mounting-hole coordinates must be imported or verified from the official KiCad/STEP package before layout.
The DS18B20 probe connector family, mating plug, and cable pinout remain to be confirmed before footprint finalization.
Button model, connector series, LED package/style, test-point style, and preferred resistor/capacitor mounting technology require final sourcing confirmation.
The external expansion load is unspecified; no guaranteed 3.3 V current is allocated for it.
Fan electrical and mechanical details are intentionally outside Revision A.
