Design a low-power USB-C powered environmental node that integrates dual-radio Wi‑Fi (802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz) and BLE 5.x connectivity, a digital temperature/humidity sensor, and a robust 5 V power input. The design must include comprehensive input protection (reverse polarity, OVP, UVLO, OCP) for a 0.5–3 A source while employing optimized decoupling and regulation for low-power operations.

#Implementation plan

USB-C Power Input & Protection
1. Add a USB‑C receptacle configured as a 5 V sink including CC resistors to ensure proper orientation detection.
2. Integrate front‑end protection using a combination of an ideal diode/reverse polarity protection circuit along with dedicated OVP, UVLO, and OCP circuitry.
3. Include ESD protection on the USB‑C CC, D+, and D− lines with bidirectional low‑cap TVS diodes (≤1 pF) and a specific USB‑C TVS for enhanced robustness.
Power Regulation
1. Incorporate a 5 V to 3.3 V synchronous buck converter sized for ~1 A peak current to supply the MCU and sensor core.
2. Add appropriate bulk (electrolytic/tantalum) capacitors and low‑ESR ceramic decoupling capacitors for high‑frequency and energy storage.
3. Create an optional quiet LDO island to power the sensors and RF sections with reduced noise.
Compute and RF Section
1. Select and add an ultra‑low‑power dual‑radio MCU that supports both 802.11 b/g/n Wi‑Fi and BLE 5.x.
2. Place and configure critical decoupling (minimum 100 nF within 5 mm of each MCU VCC/GND pair) and clock components.
3. Define a 2.4 GHz antenna keep‑out zone to ensure proper RF performance.
Sensor Integration
1. Add a digital temperature/humidity sensor with I²C interface.
2. Connect 4.7 kΩ pull‑ups on the I²C lines and include decoupling capacitors near the sensor.
3. Position the sensor away from heat sources to ensure accurate readings.
Connectivity & Final Net Integration
1. Connect all power and I/O nets appropriately, assigning clear names to the rails and signals.
2. Annotate layout rules for antenna clearance and include stitching vias where needed to maintain RF integrity.
3. Run ERC and DRC checks to validate the schematic and ensure all components meet the design criteria.

USB‑C input circuitry provides robust protection for a 5 V source (0.5–3 A), including reverse polarity, OVP, UVLO, and OCP.
The power regulation solution reliably converts 5 V to 3.3 V with proper decoupling and optional low-noise LDO support.
