Recommendations
  • Main protection:
    • Size the primary overcurrent protection for the continuous draw plus inrush margin. For a single main device, target about 500–600 A, time‑delay, high-DC-interrupt rating. Example category: Fuse.
    • If you’ll use both +12 V inputs in parallel, place one device per feed and size each at about 250–300 A.
    • Include inrush management for the bulk input capacitors (NTC or active precharge) to avoid nuisance trips:
  • Wiring and terminals:
    • Total continuous current ≈ 490 A means ≈ 245 A per positive conductor if two +12 V feeds are paralleled (same for two returns).   • Remote turn‑on:
    • Route on a separate, low‑current connector away from the high‑current power feeds to avoid coupling noise.
Notes from best practices
  • Large input bulk capacitors will produce significant inrush; use soft‑start or precharge to control it.
  • When adding bulk capacitors, ensure their ripple current rating and ESR meet the converter’s requirements to avoid instability and overheating.
