Part Review and Datasheet Update

Review complete. I created the detailed report here: Part Review: PCM1822IRTER.
Open items:
  • Datasheet URL was already populated, so I did not replace it.
  • Main mismatch: the datasheet shows WQFN-20 plus one exposed VSS thermal pad, but the symbol/footprint currently exposes five extra VSS pins/pads numbered 21–25.
  • Pin types/descriptions are mostly unset and should be populated from the datasheet.
Suggested next steps:
  1. Replace pins/pads 21–25 with one exposed pad terminal, pin 21 / VSS thermal pad.
  2. Update footprint to 20 perimeter pads + one central exposed pad per TI RTE0020A.
  3. Populate pin types and descriptions from the datasheet table.
  4. Optionally change Mount from Hardware to SMD / surface mount.
Populate all pin types and descriptions from the datasheet table.
I’ll update each terminal’s Pin Type and Pin Description from the PCM1822 datasheet pin-function table, then verify the properties were applied.
Populated and verified Pin Type and Pin Description for all 25 current terminals from the PCM1822 datasheet table.
Open items:
  • The current part still has five thermal-pad/VSS terminals numbered 21–25; the datasheet represents this as one exposed VSS thermal pad.
Suggested next steps:
  1. Normalize Pin Type values to Flux’s standard ERC options if desired.
  2. Replace VSS_5–VSS_9 with a single exposed-pad terminal/pad.
  3. Re-run the part review after the thermal pad cleanup.

Symbol Mismatches / Issues
  1. Extra VSS pins 21–25 are not datasheet device pins.
The datasheet has a single exposed thermal pad associated with VSS, shown as pad 21 in the mechanical drawing / land pattern, not five separate extra electrical VSS pins. The symbol currently creates VSS_5 through VSS_9 with pin numbers 21, 22, 23, 24, and 25. This does not match the datasheet pin function table.
  2. Thermal pad representation is incorrect / over-expanded.
Recommended representation is one exposed pad terminal, commonly pin 21 or EP, named VSS / thermal pad. The current symbol has five separate VSS terminals beyond pin 20.
  3. Pin Type properties are all Unspecified.
The datasheet defines analog input, digital input, digital output, digital I/O, analog supply, digital supply, analog reference, and ground supply functions. These should be reflected in pin type / pin description properties.
  4. Pin Description properties are not populated.
Datasheet descriptions should be added to each terminal for better symbol usability and review quality.
  5. Mount property appears incorrect.
Current metadata says Mount: Hardware; for a WQFN IC this should likely be SMD / surface mount.
Footprint Cross-Check
Observed layout nodes include pads for pins 1–20 plus VSS_5 through VSS_9 and footprint containers/shapes. The visible footprint outline and silk suggest a compact square WQFN-like package, and the package metadata says 20-WQFN.
Footprint Mismatches / Issues
  1. Pad count is inconsistent with the datasheet footprint model.
Datasheet package is WQFN-20 with one exposed thermal pad. The project has 25 pad nodes corresponding to 20 pins plus five extra VSS pads. This is not consistent with the datasheet’s 20 peripheral pads + one exposed pad.
  2. Exposed pad should be a single VSS thermal pad.
Datasheet mechanical drawing labels the exposed pad as 21 and specifies a nominal 1.4 mm square pad / example land pattern with a 1.4 mm square exposed metal region. The current footprint should be corrected to a single central exposed pad if it currently uses multiple VSS pads.
  3. Footprint geometry could not be fully verified from the available structured output.
The extracted layout SVG showed package outlines and silk but did not expose enough pad geometry detail to confirm every pad dimension, pitch, and exposed-pad size. The critical count/topology mismatch is still clear from the pad node list.
Overall Result
  • MPN / manufacturer / description: Match the TI PCM1822IRTER device family.
  • Package metadata: Mostly matches WQFN-20 / RTE, but the project’s pad count does not.
  • Pins 1–20: Match the datasheet names and numbering.
  • Extra pins/pads 21–25: Mismatch; replace with a single VSS exposed pad / thermal pad terminal.
  • Pin metadata quality: Needs improvement; pin types and pin descriptions are missing or generic.
  1. Replace VSS_5–VSS_9 / pins 21–25 with a single exposed-pad terminal, e.g. EP or VSS_EP, pin number 21, tied to VSS.
  2. Update the footprint to 20 perimeter pads + one central exposed pad matching TI RTE0020A land pattern.
  3. Set Mount to SMD / surface mount if the property options permit it.
  4. Populate each terminal’s Pin Type and Pin Description from the datasheet table.
  5. Optionally replace the Datasheet URL with the direct TI official PDF URL if project policy prefers vendor-hosted links over uploaded PDFs.

ADC, Audio 32 b 8k ~ 192k I2S 20-WQFN (3x3)
The PCM1822 is a high-performance, Burr-Brown™ audio analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that supports simultaneous sampling of up to two analog channels. The device supports single-ended and differential line and microphone inputs with a 1-VRMS full-scale signal. The device integrates a phase-locked loop (PLL), a DC removal high-pass filter (HPF), and supports sample rates up to 192 kHz. The device supports time-division multiplexing (TDM) or I2S audio formats, selectable with the hardware pin level. Additionally, the PCM1822 supports master and slave mode selection for the audio bus interface operation. These integrated high-performance features, along with the ability to be powered from a single supply of 3.3 V, make the device an excellent choice for costsensitive, space-constrained audio systems in far-field microphone recording applications. The PCM1822 is specified from –40°C to +125°C, and is offered in a 20-pin WQFN package.
