Datasheet Part Review

I found and set the official Mitsubishi Electric PS21A79 datasheet URL. I’m now cross-checking the symbol pin map and the imported KiCad footprint against the datasheet.

Completed the PS21A79 review and set the official Mitsubishi Electric datasheet URL on the part. The 30-pin symbol and footprint pad numbering match the datasheet; main issues are missing pin descriptions, all pin types set to Unspecified, overly generic DIP/Transistors metadata, and minor FO vs Fo capitalization.
Full details are in PS21A79 Part Review.
Suggested next steps:
  • Update pin descriptions and pin types.
  • Refine metadata to Mitsubishi Electric, Large DIPIPM, and IGBT Module if allowed.
  • Verify mounting-hole modeling and pad drill sizes before fabrication.

Skipped / absent numbers
The symbol intentionally omits 2, 5, 8, 11, 17, 20, and 30–33. These numbers are not shown as electrical terminals in the application circuit / terminal list extracted from the official datasheet, so their absence is not a mismatch.
Any apparent 41/42 labels in the package outline should be treated as mechanical/package-outline labels unless a terminal table explicitly lists them as electrical terminals. They should not be added as electrical schematic pins based on the available datasheet evidence.
Duplicate VP1 pins
Pins 3, 9, and 14 are all named VP1 in the datasheet. The duplicate terminal name is therefore expected and not a symbol error.
Footprint Cross-Check
Current footprint uses a custom KiCad footprint asset PS21A79.kicad_mod with 30 through-hole pads.
Pad set
The footprint pad numbers match the 30 datasheet electrical terminals:
1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 34, 35, 36, 37, 38, 39, 40
No pads are present for skipped numbers 2, 5, 8, 11, 17, 20, or 30–33, which is consistent with the extracted datasheet terminal list.

Mounting holesNot represented as copper pads in the 30-pad footprint listDatasheet calls out 2 × Ø4.5 ±0.2 mounting holes; if the package requires board mounting holes, they should be modeled separately from electrical pads
Mismatches / Issues Flagged
  1. Pin descriptions are missing. All terminal components lack Pin Description properties. This is the main symbol-quality issue.
  2. Pin types are all Unspecified. The symbol should ideally classify inputs, outputs, power pins, grounds/commons, and passive/config pins for better ERC behavior.
  3. Package metadata is too generic. DIP is broadly understandable but the datasheet package is Large DIPIPM, transfer-molded insulated type.
  4. Part type metadata is broad. Transistors is not wrong because the module contains IGBTs, but IGBT Module, Intelligent Power Module, or Power Module would better describe the device.
  5. Fault output capitalization differs. The project uses FO; the datasheet usually shows Fo. This is a minor naming/style mismatch only.
  6. Manufacturer name is slightly imprecise. Current value Mitsubishi should ideally be Mitsubishi Electric.
  7. Recommended PCB land pattern not fully proven from datasheet extraction. Pad count, order, body size, and pitch look consistent, but the official PDF excerpts did not expose explicit recommended hole/pad diameters. The current drill/pad sizes should be treated as a footprint implementation choice until verified against a manufacturer land pattern or physical lead dimensions.
  8. Mounting holes may need separate review. The datasheet shows 2 × Ø4.5 ±0.2 mounting holes and M4 mounting torque. They are mechanical features, not part of the 30 electrical pads; confirm the footprint/model includes or intentionally excludes board mounting-hole features for the intended use.

Verdict
The symbol pin-number mapping and 30-pad footprint are broadly consistent with the official Mitsubishi Electric PS21A79 datasheet. The main problems are metadata completeness and symbol usability: missing pin descriptions, all pins typed as Unspecified, generic package/type metadata, and a minor FO vs Fo capitalization difference. Footprint mechanical dimensions and pad order look consistent, but pad drill/annular dimensions and mounting-hole modeling should be verified before fabrication because the extracted datasheet content did not provide a complete recommended PCB land pattern.
