Part Review Audit

I’ll inspect the part metadata and geometry, find the official datasheet if needed, update the Datasheet property, then compare symbol/footprint/pin details against the source.
The official Amphenol datasheet URL is already present, so I’m not changing that property. I found likely review issues around missing pin metadata and footprint scale, and I’m writing the detailed findings to a project file now.

Review complete. The Datasheet URL was already set to the official Amphenol drawing, so I left it unchanged and created the detailed report here: Part Review - MDT420E01411.
Key flags: the terminal count/numbering matches the M.2 Key E pattern, but all pin descriptions/types are missing, and the footprint readback appears 1000× too small versus the datasheet dimensions. I also filed an internal part-quality report for the footprint scale issue.

Pin / Terminal Cross-Check
Pin count and numbering
The schematic terminal set matches the M.2 Key E contact population pattern:
  • Present numbered contacts: 1-23 and 32-75.
  • Absent/not populated numbers: 24-31 for the Key E mechanical notch.
  • Additional mechanical/hold-down terminals: MP1 and MP2, mapped to internal pin numbers 76 and 77.
This is consistent with the datasheet count of 67 electrical contacts plus two hold-down lands.
Pin descriptions and pin types
Mismatch: all schematic terminal components currently have Pin Type: Unspecified, and no terminal-level functional Pin Description values were found. The datasheet/application pinout expects descriptive signal names, power/ground classification, and high-speed signal identification. Examples:

Recommendation: add Pin Description, Pin Type, and functional grouping metadata for all terminals. High-speed differential terminals should be explicitly identifiable: USB_D+/USB_D-, PETp0/PETn0, PERp0/PERn0, REFCLKp0/REFCLKn0, and optional lane/reserved pairs where applicable.
Footprint Cross-Check
Geometry count and numbering
The footprint contains the expected functional groups:
  • 67 rectangular contact pads for pins 1-23 and 32-75.
  • 2 rectangular hold-down pads: MP1 and MP2.
  • 2 circular mechanical/locating hole features: designators 78 and 79.
Pad numbering pattern appears consistent with the drawing:
  • Odd row: pin 1 at the left through pin 75 at the right.
  • Even row: pin 2 at the left through pin 74 at the right.
  • Pins 24-31 absent for Key E.
Footprint scale mismatch
Major mismatch: the layout readback reports dimensions that are 1000x smaller than the datasheet values while claiming unit: mm.

Table

FeatureDatasheet expectedLayout readback
Contact pad width0.30 mm0.0003 mm
Contact pad length1.55 mm0.00155 mm
MP hold-down pad1.20 mm x 2.75 mm0.0012 mm x 0.00275 mm
Ø1.10 locating hole1.10 mm0.0011 mm
Ø1.60 locating hole1.60 mm0.0016 mm
Pin 1 x-position magnitudeabout 9.25 mm0.00925 mm
Row y-position magnitudeabout 3.775 mm in centered coordinates0.003775 mm
This strongly indicates an import/unit scaling issue in the PCB footprint. If the readback is authoritative, the footprint is not manufacturable as-is: contact pads and holes would be microscopic.
Mechanical pad notes
The circular locating features 78 and 79 are represented as pads in the readback. The datasheet describes these as non-signal mechanical holes/features, not electrical connector terminals. They should be modeled with appropriate drill/hole semantics if the platform supports it, or at minimum clearly marked as mechanical/non-BOM/non-electrical features.
Review Result Summary
Matches
  • Manufacturer, MPN, description, pitch, height, key, plating, and part family match the Amphenol source.
  • Datasheet URL is already populated with the official Amphenol drawing URL.
  • Schematic pin population matches M.2 Key E: 67 contacts, pins 24-31 absent.
  • Footprint pad count and numbering pattern appear logically consistent with the drawing.
  • Hold-down pads MP1/MP2 exist and match the expected 2 additional copper lands by naming/intent.
Mismatches / Risks
  1. Major footprint scale mismatch: pad and hole dimensions read back 1000x smaller than datasheet values.
  2. Missing terminal descriptions: schematic terminals do not carry datasheet signal names/functions.
  3. Pin types are unspecified: power, ground, high-speed differential, I/O, input/output, reserved, and mechanical pins are not classified.
  4. Mechanical holes represented as pads: locating holes 78/79 appear as circular pads; verify that these are modeled as mechanical holes/drills, not electrical lands.
  5. No schematic nets: the part project has no nets, which is normal for a raw connector part but means signal roles must come from terminal metadata.
  1. Correct the footprint unit scale so all coordinates and sizes are in true millimeters: contact pads 0.30 mm x 1.55 mm, MP pads 1.20 mm x 2.75 mm, locating features Ø1.10 mm and Ø1.60 mm.
  2. Add terminal Pin Description values for all contacts from the M.2 Socket 1 Key E pinout.
  3. Assign terminal Pin Type values: power for 3.3V, ground for GND, bidirectional/input/output where specified, passive/mechanical for MP pads and locating features.
  4. Add functional groups: Power, Ground, USB 2.0, PCIe TX/RX, REFCLK, SDIO, UART, I2S/PCM, I2C/alert, control/coexistence, reserved/vendor-defined, mechanical.
  5. Mark high-speed differential pairs and controlled-impedance roles on USB, PCIe, and REFCLK terminals if this part will be used for routing-aware designs.
  6. Verify the footprint visually and by readback after rescaling; the current scale issue should be treated as a blocking manufacturability issue until resolved.
