0ZCF0300AF2C Usage Guide

I’ll research the Bel Fuse 0ZCF0300AF2C datasheet, verify alternatives and sourcing details, and write the cited Application & Usage Guide in the project files.
I found a newer manufacturer datasheet with updated temperature-derating information. I’m using that revision and clearly distinguishing functional alternatives from verified drop-in replacements.

"0ZCF0300AF2C Usage Guide" completed.
Created the cited 0ZCF0300AF2C Application and Usage Guide in the project files, covering all seven requested sections using Bel’s April 2026 datasheet.
The guide includes temperature derating, practical wiring and layout guidance, and two functional alternatives; unverified drop-in compatibility and distributor purchasing details are explicitly flagged.

0ZCF0300AF2C Application and Usage Guide
The Bel Fuse 0ZCF0300AF2C is a two-terminal, nonpolarized 2920 surface-mount PPTC resettable fuse for occasional overcurrent protection on rails that remain at or below 15 VDC. It limits fault current by transitioning to a high-resistance state and carrying residual current; it does not provide galvanic isolation and must cool after power removal or substantial current reduction before it resets.

Maximum ratings and key electrical values

ParameterValueEngineering note
Maximum operating voltage, Vmax15 VDCDo not use directly on 20 V USB PD, 24 V rails, or automotive lines whose transients are not clamped below this limit.
Maximum fault current, Imax100 AThe prospective fault current must not exceed this rating.
Hold current, IH3.00 ARated at the stated reference condition; apply temperature derating.
Trip current, IT5.20 ADevice is not guaranteed to trip at every current between IH and IT.
Typical tripped-state power, Pd1.5 WTypical power dissipation while tripped, not a normal-load loss specification.
Initial resistance, Rmin0.010 Ω minimumInitial, unsoldered resistance; not a guaranteed typical or maximum value.
Post-trip/solder resistance, R1max0.048 Ω maximumMeasured at 23°C one hour after initial trip or soldering; this is not the hot tripped-state resistance.
Electrical values are from the 0ZCF0300AF2C selection-table row. Parameter definitions and measurement context follow the manufacturer terminology.
Operating and test conditions

Table

ConditionValueMeaning
Operating temperature range−40°C to +85°CThe usable hold current decreases substantially as ambient temperature rises.
Trip-time test20.0 s maximum at 8.0 A, 23°CA specified test point, not a universal trip time for all currents and temperatures.
Package2920 (7351 metric class)Surface-mount PPTC package.
Component height, dimension C0.40–1.15 mmUse the full tolerance range for enclosure clearance.
Recommended pad drawing labelsP = 5.10 mm, S = 2.30 mm, W = 5.60 mm nominalPreserve the manufacturer drawing interpretation; do not confuse these labels with tape carrier pitch.
Thermal derating — derived: for the 0075–0500 group, the manufacturer gives 83% at 40°C, 64% at 60°C, and 43% at 85°C. Applying these factors to 3.00 A gives approximate hold-current design limits of 2.49 A at 40°C, 1.92 A at 60°C, and 1.29 A at 85°C. These are arithmetic derivatives, not separately guaranteed datasheet ratings.
Normal-path loss — derived: using V = I × R and P = I² × R, 3.00 A corresponds to 30 mV and 90 mW at 0.010 Ω, or 144 mV and 432 mW at 0.048 Ω. The 0.048 Ω value is R1max under its stated post-trip/solder measurement condition, so this calculation is a conservative boundary illustration rather than a promised normal operating point.
2 Pinout & Connections

Table

Pin NumberPin NameDescriptionBest Practice
1LINE / IN (schematic convention)One terminal of the passive PPTC element. The manufacturer does not define a directional input.Connect to the protected source side when using the recommended high-side convention.
2LOAD / OUT (schematic convention)The other terminal of the passive PPTC element. Electrically interchangeable with Pin 1.Connect to the downstream load and place load decoupling near the load IC, not as a special requirement of the fuse.
The device is nonpolarized and has no ground, enable, or sense connection. Pin names above are documentation conventions only; swapping the two ends does not change the PPTC function.
3 Standard Application Circuit
Recommended high-side series wiring:

DC SOURCE + ── Pin 1 [0ZCF0300AF2C] Pin 2 ── PROTECTED LOAD +
DC SOURCE − ─────────────────────────────────── PROTECTED LOAD −

Optional TVS/clamp: select and place it so the voltage across the PPTC
remains within 15 VDC during the relevant transient environment.
No mandatory external passives are required for the PPTC itself. Size the source, connector, copper, and return path for the available fault current and expected clearing interval; verify that the actual prospective fault current does not exceed 100 A. For inductive or transient-prone systems, add appropriately rated suppression because voltage spikes can exceed Vmax.
Use the part for occasional faults rather than prolonged or repeatedly cycled overloads. When tripped, it remains conductive at reduced residual current; remove power or reduce current enough for the device to cool and reset.
4 PCB Layout & Routing Guidelines
  • Place the PPTC near the source or power-entry connector so downstream board copper is protected, while preserving service and thermal clearance.
  • Use the manufacturer pad drawing (P = 5.10 mm, S = 2.30 mm, W = 5.60 mm nominal) and confirm the current revision before releasing fabrication data.
  • Size traces, planes, neck-downs, and vias for actual continuous current, ambient temperature, copper weight, and fault duration; there is no universal trace width for every stackup.
  • Copper area and thermal relief geometry affect heat flow and therefore trip/reset behavior. Validate the assembled PCB in its enclosure at minimum and maximum ambient temperatures.
  • Keep the device away from hot components and temperature-sensitive circuits, and avoid rigid potting or encapsulation that prevents physical expansion. Follow the current manufacturer reflow guidance rather than improvising a solder profile.
5 Common Pitfalls
  1. Treating 3 A as valid across the full temperature range. The derated hold current is approximately 2.49 A at 40°C, 1.92 A at 60°C, and 1.29 A at 85°C; design to the worst-case local board temperature, not room-temperature marketing shorthand.
  2. Treating a PPTC as a disconnect or transient suppressor. A tripped PPTC retains residual current and R1max is not its hot tripped resistance; separately address isolation, surge clamping, and any rail above 15 VDC.
No fully drop-in replacement has been verified. Re-check footprint, thermal behavior, fault-current rating, trip curve, approvals, and supply-chain requirements before substitution.

Sourcing AdvicePrefer franchised distributors with manufacturer traceability. Non-authorized marketplaces can expose buyers to counterfeit, relabeled, or mishandled stock; verify supplier authorization and match the complete ordering code and packaging option.
Availability caveatStock, lead time, price, cut-tape options, and distributor MOQ change frequently and are not quoted here. DigiKey/Mouser cut-tape MOQ was not independently verified.
Qualification wordingBel's product page describes the series as AEC-Q200 compliant, while the Apr 2026 datasheet describes internal automotive qualification largely based on an AEC-Q test plan. Confirm the exact qualification evidence required by the end application rather than treating this as universal automotive safety certification.
