Macropad Design Files

Eseguo il routing mantenendo tutte le posizioni, rotazioni, layer dei componenti e il bordo esattamente invariati. Il GND non verrà collegato né tramite piano né tramite piste; instraderò solo le connessioni non-GND e verificherò il risultato.

Board Bring-Up Plan — ATmega32U4 Macropad
Prerequisites
  • Equipment: multimeter, current-limited USB power meter or bench 5 V supply, oscilloscope if available, ESD-safe tools.
  • Firmware: use the @firmware-starter as a first HID test image.
  • Safety: first power through a current-limited source. Do not connect directly to a valuable host PC for first power-on.
1. Visual Inspection
  • Check U1 ATMEGA32U4-AU orientation and pin-1 marker.
  • Check D1–D12 diode orientation against the silkscreen/footprint.
  • Check J1 USB-C solder joints for bridges.
  • Verify U2 USBLC6-2SC6 orientation.
  • Verify F1 PTC, R1/R2/R3/R4/R5/R6, C1–C10, Y1, SW_RESET, SW1–SW11, and ENC1 are populated.
2. Power Rail Verification

Table

GNDUSB-C GND0 VJ1 GND, U1 GND pinsContinuity across GND pour
Procedure:
  1. With no power, measure resistance from VCC to GND; investigate if near short-circuit.
  2. Apply 5 V with 100 mA current limit through USB/power fixture.
  3. Confirm VBUS_RAW before F1 and VCC after F1.
  4. Increase current limit only after the rail is stable.
3. Critical Signal Verification

5. Programming and Debug
  • Primary programming path: ATmega32U4 USB bootloader over USB-C.
  • Recommended first image: simple HID test firmware from the Firmware Starter file.
  • If USB bootloader is unavailable, add or expose ISP pads/header in a future revision; the current schematic does not include a dedicated ISP connector.
6. Functional Validation

Encoder rotationRotate clockwise/counterclockwiseVolume up/down or assigned actions
ResetPress SW_RESETUSB disconnect/reconnect or bootloader behavior
7. Mechanical Validation Before Routing
  • Import the case STEP model.
  • Align SW1–SW11 hotswap footprints to case switch openings.
  • Verify ENC1 matches the actual EC11/PEC11 mechanical opening and knob shaft position.
  • Align J1 to the USB-C case cutout.
  • Generate the final board outline from the case geometry.
  • Lock switch, encoder, connector, and board-outline positions before routing.
