What would you like to build? A rough idea is enough—for example, a sensor, robot, audio gadget, wearable, or home-automation device.
i want to work on developing an open source mp3 player powered by rockbox and visually inspired by vintage gameboys and teenage engineering. i want there to be two, hot-swappable button layouts that are connected via magnets/pins. i want one button layout to feature an ipod inspired touch wheel and i want the other to feature a snes style dpad with abxy buttons, a start button and a select button. i also want there to be a physical power button that doubles as a button lock and a volume rocker or preferably a knob. i've attached a conversation i had with claude to plan it out. I reviewed the conversation. The concept is clear, but the key architectural choice remains: should the **main PCB** be derived primarily from **Echo** (strong Rockbox compatibility), **Tangara** (modern open hardware and touch-wheel experience), or be a new design combining lessons from both? I recommend **Echo as the firmware baseline, with Tangara used as a hardware/UX reference**. Is that the direction you want?
combine lessons from both. i think the baseline should be echo to maximize rockbox compatibility with tangara's touch wheel and hardware used as reference.
