Running design review.

Moved J1 to SW1’s exact PCB position and flipped J1 to the Bottom side to avoid top-side overlap. Post-check shows no overlapping copper errors, with 14 airwires still remaining overall.

Project Specification — 555 LED Blinker
Goal
Design a simple through-hole timer circuit that blinks a red LED once per second from a 9V PP3/block battery through an on/off switch.
Architecture

Diagram

9V battery connector J1 On off switch SW1 Switched node_9V rail NE555P astable timer U1 680 ohm current limit R3 5mm red LED LED1 GND 100nF decoupling C2 and node_10uF bulk C4 47k R1 plus node_47k R2 plus node_10uF C1 timing network 10nF control bypass C3
Selected values
  • U1: NE555P, DIP-8 through-hole timer.
  • J1: Keystone 967 9V battery snap connector.
  • SW1: SPST maintained on/off switch in series with battery positive.
  • R1 = 47kΩ, R2 = 47kΩ, C1 = 10uF for astable timing.
  • Calculated frequency: f = 1.44 / ((R1 + 2R2) x C1) = about 1.02Hz.
  • R3 = 680Ω for approximately 10mA red LED current from 9V, allowing for LED forward voltage and 555 output drop.
  • C2 = 100nF VCC decoupling, C3 = 10nF control pin bypass, C4 = 10uF bulk input capacitance.
Hand-soldering notes
All selected components are through-hole or hand-solder-friendly: DIP-8 IC, axial resistors, radial/disc capacitors, through-hole/panel switch, battery connector, and 5mm LED.
