Goal

Design and implement a low-power consumer temperature and humidity sensor node powered via a USB-C connector (5 V) for 0.5 A to 3 A ranges. The device will include a digital temperature/relative humidity sensor and an ultra-low-power MCU with integrated 2.4 GHz 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi and BLE 5.x. The design will incorporate front-end power protections: reverse polarity, over-voltage, under-voltage lockout, and over-current, and be schematic and PCB-ready.

Implementation plan

Power Input and Protection
1. Add a USB-C connector configured for standard 5 V input.
2. Integrate front-end power protection circuitry covering:
  - Reverse polarity protection (e.g., MOSFET-based or diode solution).
  - Over-voltage protection (e.g., using TVS diodes or dedicated over-voltage IC).
  - Under-voltage lockout mechanism.
  - Over-current protection (e.g., resettable fuses or current limiter).
3. Connect the USB-C power to the regulated 5 V supply.
Regulated Power and System Rails
1. Design a 5 V power rail starting from the USB-C input.
2. Add proper decoupling capacitors and filtering components to ensure stability under load conditions.
Main System Components
1. Select and add an ultra-low-power MCU that integrates both 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and BLE 5.x. Ensure proper configuration for low-power operation.
2. Add a digital temperature/relative humidity sensor. Ensure proper digital interfacing (likely I²C or SPI) with the MCU.
Interconnects and Supporting Components
1. Make the necessary net connections between the MCU and the temperature/humidity sensor.
2. Ensure debug/programming headers or connectors as supporting elements.
3. Include all essential passive components (resistors, capacitors, etc.) to support the power and signal integrity.
Schematic Review and PCB-Readiness
1. Verify that all components are connected as per functional requirements and that net connections follow power, signal, and data connectivity needs.
2. Prepare the schematic design for handoff to PCB layout by ensuring all components have proper footprints and support elements are included.

Success criteria

Completion of a full schematic that includes USB-C power routing, complete power protection, regulated 5 V distribution, and digital sensor interfacing with the low-power MCU.
The schematic is fully connected, component footprints are assigned, and the design is ready for PCB layout and further routing.
