Evaluating naming and specifications.

Citing sources and procedural accuracy.

I reviewed the part against the datasheet using the part-project sync approach: verify the official Datasheet URL, then use the datasheet as the source of truth for pin count, pin naming, and metadata
Datasheet URL
  • Official Kinetic Technologies PDF: https://www.kinet-ic.com/uploads/web/KTD2027/KTD2026-7-04h.pdf
  • Your project already had that same URL in context, and it now matches the official PDF URL.
Reviewed part info
  • MPN: KTD2027BEWE-TR
  • Manufacturer: Kinetic Technologies
  • Part Type: Integrated Circuit
  • Designator Prefix: U
  • Package in project assets: SON40P150X150X55-9N.kicad_mod
  • Official package from datasheet/product page: UTDFN 1.5x1.5-8, package code WE
  • Current symbol terminals found: D4, D3, D2, D1, VIN, SCL, SDA, GND, EXP
  • Current footprint pads found: 9 total pads
Key datasheet specs
  • 4-channel programmable constant-current RGBW LED driver with I²C control
  • VIN operating range: 2.7 V to 5.5 V
  • Output current: 0.125 mA to 24 mA per channel
  • Shutdown current: 0.1 µA typ, 1.0 µA max
  • Current accuracy: ±5%
  • Dropout at Dx pins: 75 mV typ, 120 mV max at 20 mA
  • Operating temp: -40 °C to +85 °C
  • Thermal shutdown: 140 °C typ
  • Package: UTDFN 1.5 x 1.5 mm, 8-pin, exposed center pad to GND plane
Cross-check results 1) Project description / metadata mismatches
I found several content mismatches in the project description:
  • Project says WLCSP → datasheet says UTDFN-8 / UTDFN 1.5x1.5-8
  • Project says triple-channel RGB in places → datasheet says 4-channel RGBW
  • Project says “up to three LED channels” → datasheet supports four current-sink outputs on KTD2027
  • The current description is generally for the KTD2026/2027 family, but parts of it describe the wrong package/family details
2) Symbol / pin naming
The core 8 named pins match the KTD2027 pin table well:
  • 1 D4
  • 2 D3
  • 3 D2
  • 4 D1
  • 5 VIN
  • 6 SCL
  • 7 SDA
  • 8 GND
So the main symbol pin names and numbering look mostly correct.
3) Pin-type mismatches
I found these issues in the current symbol properties:
  • GND is currently typed as Power In → should be Ground
  • EXP is currently typed as Passive → should likely be treated as Ground/exposed pad tied to ground plane
  • SCL is currently typed as Input → acceptable
  • SDA is currently typed as Bi-Directional → acceptable
  • D1/D2/D3/D4 are typed as Output → correct
  • VIN is typed as Power In → correct
4) Pin count / exposed pad
This is the main structural issue:
  • Datasheet pin table shows 8 numbered pins
  • Your symbol/footprint use 9 pads/terminals, including EXP
  • The datasheet also says the center exposed pad underneath the package should be soldered to ground
So:
  • Physical footprint with 9 pads is plausible and likely correct for an 8-pin UTDFN with exposed pad
  • But the exposed pad is not clearly shown as numbered “9” in the extracted datasheet text
  • That means the current EXP pin number = 9 should be treated as needs confirmation
  • If you want strict datasheet consistency, this pad should be explicitly documented as exposed pad / center pad tied to GND, not silently treated as a normal signal pin
5) Footprint cross-check
The footprint name SON40P150X150X55-9N is mechanically consistent with:
  • ~1.5 mm x 1.5 mm body
  • 0.40 mm pitch
  • 9 lands total including center pad
That aligns well with the datasheet’s UTDFN 1.5x1.5-8 with exposed center pad. So I do not see an obvious footprint-package mismatch; it looks more like a naming convention difference than a bad footprint.
Summary of flagged mismatches
  1. Description/package text mismatch: says WLCSP, should be UTDFN-8
  2. Channel-count mismatch in description: says 3-channel/triple-channel in places, should be 4-channel RGBW
  3. GND pin type wrong: should be Ground
  4. EXP pad handling is ambiguous: present in symbol/footprint, but datasheet evidence supports it as grounded exposed pad, not a generic passive pin
  5. EXP pin number “9” needs confirmation/documentation since datasheet pin table is 8-pin, though the exposed pad clearly exists
Overall assessment
  • MPN / manufacturer / designator prefix: good
  • Official datasheet URL: good
  • Main 8-pin symbol mapping: good
  • Footprint: likely good
  • Description and some pin semantics: need cleanup
If you want, I can make the next pass and fix the project description plus the terminal properties for GND and EXP.
Fix all mismatches
Check decoupling issues
