WiFi Water Flow Meter Design

Design a WiFi-enabled water flow meter for a 3/4" PVC pipe with the following specifications:
Project Requirements Power Input
  • USB-C: 5V (15W) power input with appropriate protection circuitry
Connectivity
  • WiFi Module: ESP32 or similar for wireless connectivity and data transmission
Sensing
  • Ultrasonic Flow Sensor: External ultrasonic sensor suitable for 3/4" PVC pipe
  • Measure flow rate and total volume
  • Sensor is powered with 12V and outputs RS485
Power Management
  • Voltage Regulation: 3.3V regulator for powering the ESP32 and sensor
  • Protection: Reverse polarity protection, ESD protection, and decoupling capacitors
Supporting Components
  • Programming Interface: UART header for firmware updates
  • Status Indicators: LEDs for power, WiFi connection, and flow detection
  • Reset Circuit: Proper enable/reset network for the microcontroller
Request
Generate a complete schematic with all necessary components, including the power supply, microcontroller, sensor interface, and supporting circuitry.
I’m blocked from executing the schematic generation because this account currently has no available ACUs, so AI design tools are unavailable right now.
What’s been accomplished so far:
  • Project exists but is still empty: 0 components, 0 nets.
  • No schematic, parts, wiring, documentation, or validation has been created yet.
  • I reviewed the requested architecture: USB-C 5 V input, ESP32 WiFi, 12 V-powered RS485 ultrasonic flow sensor interface, 3.3 V logic rail, protection, UART programming, status LEDs, and reset/enable support.
What remains to be done once ACUs are available:
  • Select concrete parts: ESP32 module, USB-C input/protection parts, 5 V→12 V boost regulator, 3.3 V regulator, RS485 transceiver, headers/connectors, LEDs, and passives.
  • Calculate the power budget, especially because the sensor needs 12 V while USB-C provides 5 V.
  • Generate the schematic and wiring.
  • Add project documentation: specification, firmware pin map, bring-up plan, and regulatory notes for WiFi.
  • Run ERC/design review and fix any schematic issues.
