Project Description Update

Great idea. Here are surface‑mount (SMT) recommendations for each through‑hole piece in your current schematic. I’m only recommending parts; nothing in your schematic is being changed.
Surface‑mount replacements

FunctionCurrent THT in schematicRecommended SMT replacementNotes
Power-path Schottky diodeD1B5819W-TPSOD-123 Schottky for series protection. Keep it in series (per best practice) and verify forward drop is acceptable for your 5 V rail. Orient band to the 5 V rail.
Status LEDD2150060VS55040 (0603 green LED)Indicator LED in 0603. Check LED’s forward voltage/current and size the series resistor accordingly.
LED series resistor (1 kΩ)R11kΩ 0603 ResistorChoose 0603 for compact layout. Follow the 60% resistor power‑derating guideline.
Pushbutton (6x6 mm tact)SW11571563-8 (6x6x5 mm SMD tact)Same 6x6 mm footprint style in SMT. Alternate: TSD003A10026B02.
Motor connectors (JST‑PH 2‑pin)M1, M2S2B-PH-SM4-TB(LF)(SN)SMT right‑angle JST‑PH with metal hold‑downs; same 2.00 mm pitch as your THT PH.
3‑pin expansion header (2.54 mm)J2TSM-103-01-L-SV1x3 SMT 2.54 mm header. Note: this is a vertical SMT style; if you need right‑angle, we can look for a specific RA SMT header.
Buck regulator moduleU3Module‑class IC: MPM3610AGQV-P; Alt IC: TPS62130ARGTRSMT solutions to replace the THT module. These are IC/module regulators (integrated inductor options available). They will require a future schematic/PCB update to add their passives and pins; no changes made now.
Mounting holesHole1, Hole2Keep as NPTH mounting holesMechanical only; keep as non‑plated through‑holes.
Notes and best‑practice reminders
  • Schottky orientation and drop: Keep D1 as a series Schottky for reverse‑polarity/backfeed protection and verify the forward drop budget for your 5 V rail.
  • LED and resistor pair: Always include the series resistor and check the LED’s specified continuous current; many small LEDs are rated for 10–15 mA (size the resistor accordingly).
  • Resistor power derating: Choose a value/power rating such that the resistor runs at no more than 60% of its maximum rated power.
  • Headers/connectors: The JST PH SMT part above is a drop‑in series change (2.00 mm). The 1x3 SMT 2.54 mm header is vertical; if you must keep a right‑angle presentation, I can source a specific RA SMT header.
If you want, I can prepare a minimal change list to swap only the THT parts above for their SMT counterparts in your next rev, and leave the ESP32 module as-is.
