Board Bring-Up Plan Scope and Safety
Validate the completed Solar MP3 Player schematic before any PCB layout. Use a genuine DFR0299, FAT16/FAT32 microSD card (≤32 GB), and a 4–8 Ω speaker. The speaker output is BTL: connect the load and differential probe only between SPK_P and SPK_N; never ground either lead.
Equipment and Setup
  • Current-limited bench supply connected to J1: positive to pin 1 (PANEL_POS) and return to pin 2 (GND).
  • Emulate the Voltaic P123 at its expected operating point with 5.89 V, 100 mA current limit. Also test up to 7.25 V open-circuit-equivalent voltage while retaining a ≤120 mA limit.
  • DMM; oscilloscope with differential measurement for speaker output; optional electronic load/current logging.
Completed the batteryless solar MP3 schematic: protected/regulated P123 input, 4400 µF buffering, 4.60 V/3.81 V UVLO hysteresis, switched DFR0299 MP3/microSD module, and differential speaker output. ERC and power checks are clean.
  • Open item: DFR0299 power-on autoplay and persistent looping are not manufacturer-guaranteed; genuine hardware must be bench-tested.
  • Board Bring-Up Plan includes the required five-cycle autoplay/repeat test.
Suggested next steps
  1. Bench-test the DFR0299 automatic-loop behavior.
  2. If it fails, add a tiny low-power controller for guaranteed looping.
  3. After resolving that behavior, proceed to compact PCB placement.

Table

BlockImplementation
Solar input/protectionExisting J1, D1, D2 corrected by adding U4/C8 for actual P123 Voc
ReservoirExisting C1/C2 corrected to 10 V radial packages
UVLO/load switchExisting TLV3012 + SiP32431 and support passives, fully wired
MP3/storage/audioExisting DFR0299 and integrated microSD, fully powered and speaker-wired
Automatic loop controlBlocked: DFRobot does not document continuous IO1 strap as loop/autostart; previous strap removed
Sequence
  1. Panel charges SOLAR_BUF through D1/U4.
  2. At 4.60 V, U2 drives U3 ON.
  3. DFR0299 powers up. Guaranteed automatic play/repeat requires a validated module behavior or added UART controller.
  4. Reservoir supplies short load deficits.
  5. At 3.81 V, U2 drives U3 OFF; restart waits for 4.60 V.
PCB work is intentionally outside this schematic checkpoint.
