#Goal

Design a beginner-friendly LED blinking circuit that uses a 9V battery with an on/off switch to power a red LED blinker at approximately 1 Hz using a 555 timer in astable mode. The design will use through-hole components suitable for hand-soldering.

#Implementation plan

Power Supply & Control
1. Add a through-hole 9V battery connector to the schematic.
2. Place an on/off toggle switch between the battery and the rest of the circuit for manual control.
Timer Circuit
1. Select and add a DIP 555 timer IC to the schematic.
2. Configure the 555 timer in the astable oscillator mode using a resistor-capacitor (RC) network.
  1. Choose standard resistor values and capacitor value to yield a ~1-second period (approximately 1 Hz blink rate).
  2. Include decoupling capacitors as needed for power supply stability.
LED and Current Limiting
1. Add a through-hole red LED to the circuit.
2. Include a current-limiting resistor in series with the LED to ensure safe LED operation (typical value around 470-680 ohm).
3. Connect the LED to be driven by the output from the 555 timer.
Final Integration
1. Connect all components appropriately to complete the circuit, ensuring proper signal flow from the timer to the LED and protecting the timer with necessary bypass capacitors.
2. Verify that all chosen components are through-hole and suitable for hand-soldering.

#Success criteria

The 9V battery correctly powers the circuit and is controlled by the on/off switch.
The 555 timer oscillates near 1 Hz, causing the LED to blink approximately once per second.
The LED operates safely with proper current limitation and all components are through-hole, making the circuit easy to hand-solder.
