Buck Regulator Circuit Design

Below is a detailed wiring description that connects all the components with wires for the 3.3 V buck converter:
  1. Battery & Power Input:
    • Battery Positive → Wire to the VIN pin (pin 2) of the TPS62840DLCR (U1).
    • Battery Negative → Wire to the common ground.
  2. Input Capacitor (C1 - 10 µF):
    • Connect one terminal of C1 to VIN (pin 2 of U1).
    • Connect the other terminal of C1 to the common ground.
  3. Switching Section:
    • SW Connection:
    • Schottky Diode (D1) Wiring:
      • Take a wire from the SW node (i.e. the node at U1 pin 7) and connect it to the anode of the Schottky Diode D1.
      • Connect the cathode of D1 to the output node (the node where the inductor L1 connects at its other end).
  4. Output Section:
    • Inductor (L1) Wiring:
      • Wire the other end of L1 to the output node.
    • Output Capacitor (C2 - 22 µF):
      • Connect one terminal of C2 to the output node.
      • Connect the other terminal of C2 to the common ground.
    • Resistor Divider for 3.3 V Feedback:
      • Wire resistor R1 (45 kΩ) between the output node and the VSET pin (pin 5) of TPS62840DLCR (U1).
      • Wire resistor R2 (10 kΩ) between the VSET pin (pin 5) and the common ground.
  5. Common Ground:
    • Wire all ground connections together: Battery negative, the ground pin of U1 (pin 1), the lower terminals of C1 and C2, and the bottom end of [R2].
This wiring arrangement ensures:
  • The regulator receives a stable input voltage with proper filtering.
  • The switching node at U1’s SW pin drives L1 and the freewheeling diode D1.
  • L1 and C2 create a clean 3.3 V output.
  • The resistor divider from the output sets the feedback (VSET) voltage for proper regulation.
