USB-C Temperature and Humidity Sensor Design

Work completed
  • Goals documented with detailed description and hashtags (#USBpower #power-protection #low-power #I2C #WiFi #BLE #env-sensor)
  • System architecture defined and set as mermaid diagram in project properties
  • Added key ICs and modules:
    • USB Type-C FUSB302 Module (USB receptacle + CC sink resistors + ESD)
    • USBLC6-2P6 TVS diodes
    • TPS25200 eFuse for reverse-polarity/OVP/UVLO/OCP
    • ST1S14PHR 5→3.3 V buck regulator
    • ESP32-WROOM-32D dual-radio module
  • Added active components:
    • SMLP14ECNWT86 green LED
    • KT-0603R red LED
    • SI2333DDS-T1-GE3 P-channel MOSFET as sensor power switch
  • Added support passives:
    • Bulk and local decoupling capacitors (4× Generic Capacitor C6–C9)
    • I²C pull-ups (2× Generic Resistor R3, R4)
Remaining tasks
  • Supporting components and power:
    • Select and add required inductors or oscillators (3.3 V regulator input)
  • Connectivity (Step 4):
    • Pick/add connectors (I²C header, programming header)
    • Wire nets:
      • USB-C VBUS → eFuse → buck input
      • CC pins → sink resistors
      • D+/D− → TVS diodes
      • Buck 3.3 V → MCU/sensor power switch
      • MCU/sensor I²C pins with pull-ups
  • Schematic review (Step 5)
  • Prepare PCB layout (Step 6)
  • Define layout rules (Step 7)
  • Auto-layout placement and routing (Steps 8–9)
  • PCB review and manufacturability checks (Steps 10–11)
Success criteria
None of the criteria are fully met yet:
  • Schematic power protection nets aren’t fully connected or configured for 0.5–3 A
  • 3.3 V stage values and quiescent current not verified
  • RF keep-out area and sensor placement not set
  • I²C sensor not yet added
  • PCB layout not started
Recommended next step
Proceed with Connectivity: add the remaining connectors (I²C header, programming port) and complete all net connections so the power and data flows are fully defined in the schematic.
