TouchOSC XY Controller

  1. BOM mit konkreten MPNs vervollständigen.
  2. Silkscreen und Beschriftungen bereinigen.
  3. Fertigungsdaten erzeugen und Board-Bring-up vorbereiten.

  • External joystick-module connector: 3V3, GND, X, Y, SW.
  • Native USB 2.0 device interface on GPIO19/GPIO20.
  • USB Type-C sink configuration with independent 5.1 kΩ CC pull-downs.
  • USB data and VBUS ESD protection.
  • 5 V to 3.3 V synchronous buck regulator.

                    D-/D+ -----------------------> native USB

Hardware Subsystems
USB and Protection
  • GCT USB4215-03-A USB 2.0 Type-C receptacle.
  • CC1 and CC2 each use 5.1 kΩ to GND.
  • USBLC6-2SC6 protects D+ and D−.
  • ESD5341N protects VBUS.
Power
  • AP63203WU-7 fixed 3.3 V, 2 A synchronous buck.
  • Datasheet network: 10 µF input, 3.9 µH shielded inductor, 2 × 22 µF output, 100 nF bootstrap from BST to SW.
  • EN tied to protected 5 V input for automatic startup.
Compute and Wireless
  • ESP32-S3-WROOM-1-N8R2, 8 MB flash and 2 MB PSRAM, integrated antenna.
  • 3.3 V local 100 nF plus 22 µF bulk decoupling.
  • EN: 10 kΩ pull-up, 1 µF to GND, RESET switch to GND.
  • GPIO0: 10 kΩ pull-up, BOOT switch to GND.
Inputs
  • External five-pin joystick header used because it provides a clear, serviceable interface to common 3.3 V joystick modules.
  • X -> GPIO1 / ADC1_CH0 through 1 kΩ + 100 nF RC.
  • Y -> GPIO2 / ADC1_CH1 through 1 kΩ + 100 nF RC.
  • Joystick SW -> GPIO4, active-low, external 10 kΩ pull-up.
  • Function buttons -> GPIO5 and GPIO6, active-low, each with 10 kΩ pull-up.
Indicators
  • Power LED from 3V3 through resistor to GND.
  • Status/WLAN LED controlled by GPIO7 through resistor.

Power and Runtime Expectations
  • Bus-powered only; no battery.
  • Designed to remain below the USB default-current envelope in normal use.
Power Tree and Power Budget

Table

3.3 V loadTypicalPeak
ESP32-S3 Wi-Fi250 mA500 mA
Joystick + pull-ups5 mA5 mA
LEDs5 mA10 mA
Margin / leakage10 mA20 mA
Total270 mA535 mA
At 90% converter efficiency, estimated 5 V input is about 198 mA typical and 392 mA peak. The 2 A regulator provides substantial transient margin. Linear dissipation at the peak would be (5 − 3.3) × 0.535 ≈ 0.91 W, so a small LDO was rejected in favor of the buck regulator.
Manufacturing and Assembly Expectations
  • SMD professional assembly; 0603 passives generally, 0805/1210 where capacitance and DC-bias margin require it.
  • Shielded power inductor with 3.9 µH, Isat ≥ 2.5 A, Irms ≥ 1 A, low DCR.
  • ESP32 antenna keepout must be honored during PCB layout.
Firmware-Relevant Hardware Requirements
  • PlatformIO Arduino framework.
  • Native USB enabled for flashing/serial where supported.
  • ADC calibration/deadzone and debounced active-low buttons.
  • Configurable Wi-Fi SSID/password and OSC target IP/port.
Physical Design Expectations
  • USB-C at a board edge; ESP32 antenna at a board edge with copper/component keepout.
  • Joystick header and user buttons remain accessible.
Important Design Decisions
  • Buck regulator selected for thermal margin and Wi-Fi current peaks.
  • GPIO1/GPIO2 selected for joystick ADC because they are ADC1 channels and are not ESP32-S3 strapping pins.
  • GPIO3, GPIO45 and GPIO46 are intentionally not used for controls.
  • GPIO35–GPIO37 are avoided because this N8R2 module variant may reserve memory-related pins; GPIO19/GPIO20 are reserved for native USB.
Assumptions
  • External joystick module operates from 3.3 V and its X/Y outputs do not exceed 3.3 V.
  • OSC recipient is on the same IP network.
  • No USB Power Delivery is required.
Change Notes
  • Initial architecture, component direction, GPIO map and power budget established.
  • Completed 34-component / 23-net schematic with USB-C protection, AP63203 buck, ESP32-S3, joystick filters, controls and LEDs.
  • ERC/passive/component review completed with no open warnings or errors in the checked categories.
  • Open sourcing item: replace the generic 3.9 µH inductor representation with a locked shielded production MPN before procurement.
