Repacked the PCB placement while preserving the existing architecture, keeping connectors on edges, and keeping U4 at the top edge with antenna overhang.
Tightened placement again to pull U4 farther inside the board and add local clearance around U6.
Verified the layout envelope and documented the cleanup state in Design Notes.
Success criteria review
❌ No remaining PCB airwires: review still reports 59 airwires.
❌ Overlapping copper eliminated: review still reports 4 overlapping-copper errors tied to U6.
❌ Board dimensions strictly comply with 60 mm x 45 mm: component bounds improved to 57.75 mm x 49 mm, so height is still over the 45 mm limit.
✅ Overall system architecture was preserved during placement cleanup.
❌ DRC/ERC fully clean: the layout review still shows airwire and copper-overlap errors, and ERC still shows floating pin U1LX.
Next steps
I could not finish the remaining plan because this session is blocked from further project edits. The next concrete actions are:
compress the vertical placement another 4 mm while preserving U4 antenna clearance,
Cluck Guard layout cleanup - airwire and overlap reduction
Current observed state
Board target remains fixed at 60 mm x 45 mm
A refreshed placement pass has now pulled the ESP32-C3 module downward while keeping antenna overhang at the top edge
Placement engine reports all components placed, in-bounds, and overlap-free after the latest pass
Review still needs to confirm whether copper-overlap and airwire counts dropped
Remaining known ERC warning before the latest review was U1 LX floating
Placement constraints used
Preserve current architecture and connector functions
Keep all connectors at board edges
Keep ESP32-C3 module antenna overhanging the top edge for RF clearance
Keep power block grouped: U1, U3, U6, L1, D1, D3 and associated passives
Keep PIR connector away from switching power area
Keep board strictly within 60 mm x 45 mm
Observed hotspot
Earlier overlapping copper reports mapped to the U6 footprint
Latest placement pass added local clearance around U6 and nearby support parts
Planned cleanup sequence
Re-run review after placement change
If overlapping copper persists, target localized geometry or rule cleanup near U6
Validate board bounds and remaining airwires
Close remaining ERC warning if still present
Cluck Guard layout cleanup - airwire and overlap reduction
Current observed state
Placement constraints used
Observed hotspot
