Compact NRF52840 Design Components


Let’s start by adding all the new components. Once they’re in the schematic, we can wire them together in the next step.
  1. Replace LED1 with an RGB LED
    • Add RGB LED (4-pin, common-cathode SMD 5050) as LED1
  2. Add current-limiting resistors for each color channel
    • R1 – Red channel (220 Ω, 1/8 W, 0603)
    • R2 – Green channel (220 Ω, 1/8 W, 0603)
    • R3 – Blue channel (220 Ω, 1/8 W, 0603)
  3. Add protection and decoupling
    • D1 – Reverse-polarity protection (e.g. BAT54S)
    • C1 – Bulk decoupling on battery rail (1 µF, 16 V, 0603)
    • C2 – High-frequency decoupling (100 nF, 16 V, 0603)
  4. Add USB power and data interface
    • J1 – Micro-USB B, 5 pins
  5. Add reset/bootloader button
    • SW2 – Tactile switch for RESET/UF2 entry

Here’s how to add your new parts in Flux:
  1. Open the Library panel (left column).
  2. Search for each part by name or key specs:
    • RGB LED: “RGB 5050 common cathode”
    • 220 Ω resistor (×3)
    • Schottky diode (e.g. “BAT54S”)
    • 1 µF capacitor
    • 100 nF capacitor
    • Micro-USB Type-B connector
    • Tactile switch (for reset/UF2)
  3. Drag each component onto your schematic.
  4. Rotate or flip parts as needed using the R (rotate) and F (flip) keys.
  5. Adjust generic component values:
    • Click a resistor, set Value = 220 Ω, Footprint = 0603
    • Click capacitors, set Values = 1 µF / 100 nF, Voltage = 16 V, Footprint = 0603
  6. Rename designators sequentially (e.g., R1, R2, R3, D1, C1, C2, J1, SW2).
