- Update the current ESP32-based controller module to use an ESP32-C3-MINI microcontroller, transition the external serial interface from RS485 to RS232, and replace the existing 2-position terminal with an RJ45 connector. The RJ45 will be limited to pins 1-4 with the mapping: pin 1 (TX RS232), pin 2 (RX RS232), pin 3 (GND), and pin 4 (5V), maintaining the overall intent as an ESP32 controller with external serial connectivity and power distribution.
#Implementation plan
- Replace the MCU:
- Remove the ESP32-WROOM-32E component.
- Add the ESP32-C3-MINI component available in the Flux parts library.
- Reconfigure power, clock, and interface connections as required by the ESP32-C3-MINI.
- Update the serial interface:
- Remove the RS485 interface elements (including the MAX3485 transceiver) from the schematic.
- Add RS232 interface components suitable for ESP32-level RS232 signaling.
- Connect TX and RX lines appropriately from the ESP32-C3-MINI to the RS232 interface circuit.
- Update the external connector:
- Remove the 2-position terminal connector from the design.
- Add an RJ45 connector limited to using only pins 1-4.
- Map the RJ45 connector pins such that: pin 1 = TX RS232, pin 2 = RX RS232, pin 3 = GND, and pin 4 = 5V supply.
- Verify overall module functionality:
- Check all component interconnections including power distribution and serial communication.
- Update design documentation with the revised pin mappings and component selections.
#Success criteria
- The ESP32-C3-MINI is correctly incorporated and interfaced in place of the ESP32-WROOM-32E.
- The RS232 interface functions properly, with correct TX and RX links reestablished via the new interface components.
- The RJ45 connector is correctly configured with pins 1-4 mapped as specified, ensuring reliable external serial connectivity and power distribution.
- Updated schematic accurately reflects all changes and meets the revised design requirements.
