Schematic Design for Line Follower Robot

  • Built the mirrored schematic for the two-channel line follower using BT1, U1, U3, Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4, DCF1, DCF2, U5, U2, and mirrored resistor sets R1 through R10.
  • Assigned manufacturing-ready footprints and added mirrored assembly/placement metadata so left and right channels stay consistent during PCB work.
  • Wired explicit nets for shared power and mirrored channels: VCC, GND, TOP_SENSE_NODE, BOT_SENSE_NODE, TOP_DRIVE_NODE, and the local drive/LED nets.
  • Configured a symmetric 90 mm x 55 mm rectangular 4-layer layout with base rules for trace width, keep out, and board inset.
  • Defined placement groups and created a symmetric placement strategy with BT1 centered, sensor blocks at the front edge, and DCF1 / DCF2 mirrored on opposite sides.
  • Annotated net intent so power and ground are prioritized for routing and sensor nets remain identifiable during final PCB refinement.
Success criteria review
  • ✅ The schematic now represents the mirrored two-channel robot circuit with named shared rails and mirrored left/right signal structure.
  • ✅ Footprints are assigned across the main production components, with mirrored orientation guidance added to component properties.
  • ✅ The PCB plan now includes a symmetric outline, centerline-based placement strategy, and routing/power-distribution intent.
  • ✅ Electrical connectivity checks are clean at the schematic level.
  • ❌ The PCB is not fully routed yet; DRC still reports airwires, so final copper routing remains the next step.
Next steps The project is ready for final PCB refinement: widen the motor-current paths, add ground fill, and complete routing to remove the remaining airwires.
