Design Notes
9V NE555 LED Blinker
  • Target blink frequency: approximately 1 Hz
  • Timer topology: NE555 astable oscillator
  • Timing values selected: R1 = 10k, R2 = 68k, C = 10uF
  • Calculated frequency: 1.44 / ((10k + 2 x 68k) x 10uF) = 0.9863 Hz
  • LED series resistor selected: 1k for comfortable brightness from a 9V-powered output stage
  • Supply stabilization: 47uF bulk capacitor across switched 9V rail
  • Local bypassing: 100nF from VCC to GND at the NE555 and 10nF from CTRL to GND
  • Hand-solderable choices: DIP-8 NE555, through-hole switch, through-hole battery connector, axial resistors, radial/disc capacitors, 5mm through-hole LED
