LCD Connection Guide

Below is a summary of the suggested schematic connections to interface your LCD in full 8-bit mode with the microcontroller:
Power and Contrast
  • Wire [LCD1] VSS (pin 1) to a Ground net.
  • Wire [LCD1] VDD (pin 2) to your VCC net.
  • For contrast control, connect [LCD1] VO (pin 3) to a potentiometer (or a fixed voltage divider) for adjustable contrast.
Control Signals
  • Wire [LCD1] RS (pin 4) to [IC1] PA0.
  • Wire [LCD1] R/W (pin 5) to Ground (assuming write-only operation).
  • Wire [LCD1] E (pin 6) to [IC1] PA1.
8-Bit Data Bus
  • Connect [LCD1] D0 (pin 7) to [IC1] PA2.
  • Connect [LCD1] D1 (pin 8) to [IC1] PA3.
  • Connect [LCD1] D2 (pin 9) to [IC1] PA4.
  • Connect [LCD1] D3 (pin 10) to [IC1] PA5.
  • Connect [LCD1] D4 (pin 11) to [IC1] PA6.
  • Connect [LCD1] D5 (pin 12) to [IC1] PA7.
  • Connect [LCD1] D6 (pin 13) to [IC1] PB0.
  • Connect [LCD1] D7 (pin 14) to [IC1] PB1.
Backlight
  • Wire [LCD1] LED+ (pin 15) to VCC (optionally via a current-limiting resistor for brightness control).
  • Wire [LCD1] LED- (pin 16) to Ground.
