This is an example development and reference design for the ESP32 microcontroller. This project involves the interconnection of various electronic components and their interfaces. Major components include:
ESP32 Microcontroller (Designator: U1) – a powerful, generic WiFi-BT-BLE MCU module that targets a wide range of applications, ranging from low-power sensor networks to the most demanding tasks such as voice encoding, music streaming, and MP3 decoding.
16-Channel 12-bit PWM LED driver (Designator: U7) – a PCA9685PW device used for driving LEDs.
16-Bit Analog-to-Digital Converter with SPI (Designator: U5) - a device for accurate analog to digital conversion.
A number of resistors (Designators includes: R1, R3, R4, R8, R12, R7, R10, R5, R9, R11, R18, R15, etc.) used to restrict current flow and divide voltage in the circuit.
Several GPIO expanders (Designators includes: U2) - a MCP23017-E/SO device that provides additional I/O pins for the microcontroller via an I2C interface.
Various connectors, likely providing connection ports for external devices or debugging (Designators includes: J1, J2, J3, J5, J6, J7, J9, J10, J11, J14, J15).
A number of capacitors (Designators include: C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, C7, C8) used for filtering and decoupling.
An NPN transistor (Designator: Q1 & Q2) used as a switch or amplifier in the circuit.
LED (Designators include: D1).
There are also numerous unlabeled designators that exist which may represent other necessary circuit elements. However, these have not been properly labelled, making it difficult to identify their purpose. For example, there's a number of unnamed elements with their BOM exclusion set to "true", meaning they're likely placeholders or mechanical components that aren't included in the official Bill of Materials.
The project includes a variety of nets, showing how the different components are connected in the circuitry. Feel free to ask if you want specific information about a component or connection in this project.
