Getting Started with a Project

The CAD model is built with the 40 mm height, 70 mm bell diameter, and integral mounting flange. I’m checking it now; the mounting pattern is based on public nominal dimensions, but direct fit still needs confirmation of your carburetor’s inlet retention and fastener access.

with 40 mm overall height, 70 mm bellmouth OD, a true parabolic inlet, rounded lip and integral two-hole flange.
Direct bolt-on fit is not yet qualified: the nominal flange has Ø6.3 mm holes on 65 mm centers, but your carburetor’s inlet retention and sideways wrench access need confirmation before machining; details are in Design and Validation.
What is the full DCOE model number stamped on your carburetor, and can you provide a front-on photo with the existing trumpet removed?

Design and Validation
Status and scope
Completed a standalone, parametric exact-solid aluminum velocity stack, one barrel only. Best validated CAD candidate; NOT released for machining or installation. The model uses publicly documented nominal flush-flange geometry; compatibility with the user's actual Weber 45 DCOE variant remains unverified. No PCB, electronics, carburetor model, inserted sleeve, or mounting hardware assembly was added.
  • Required height: 40.0 mm, carburetor mounting face z=0 to highest lip, including flange.
  • Required bell outside diameter: 70.0 mm. This limit applies to the bellmouth; the two-ear flange is 80.0 mm overall along its stud axis.
  • True quadratic inlet, rounded lip, short cylindrical lower neck and integral two-hole flange.
  • Source millimeters, bore axis at XY=(0,0), positive Z toward inlet; source has no geometry below mounting datum.
  • Process: CNC-machined 6061-T6 aluminum billet, selected for the requested metal part, continuous smooth bore and integral flange. Material/finish recommendation is not a strength or fuel/environment qualification.

Source caveats
The reproduced mating drawing labels a small fixing-hole dimension inconsistent with the current sourced M6 stud; its hole diameter was not used. The model uses Webcon's M6 nominal thread and a separate design clearance. The EFI PDF's searchable technical content was retrieved, but a direct full PDF download stalled and was incomplete; no detailed visual tolerance interpretation is claimed. Reproduced drawings show the 65 mm stud line centered about the bore. For reference, rotation of local +X to 115 degrees gives left-barrel hole coordinates approximately (-13.735,+29.455) and (+13.735,-29.455); the opposite barrel uses 65 degrees. These advisory angles do not lock the standalone model's installation orientation.
Exact inlet definition
For 0.2 <= z <=12, r=22.5. For 12 <= z <=39.091665098:
r(z) = 22.5 + 0.0120227691702 (z-12)^2
This meridian is an exact degree-2 Bezier, revolved 360 degrees, not a polyline or conical approximation. Its controls in (r,z) are (22.5,12), (22.5,25.545832549), (31.324211435,39.091665098). The derivative is zero at the cylindrical throat, giving a tangent-continuous join.
The entry circle is centered at (r,z)=(33,38), radius2. The inlet touches it at (31.324211435,39.091665098), slope dr/dz=0.651433672. The circle reaches z=40 and r=35, then joins the outer cubic at (34.675788565,36.908334902). The outer cubic is a smooth fairing, not part of the claimed parabolic flow surface. The straight throat, parabola and lip are G1 tangent-continuous, not G2 curvature-continuous; the lip is intentionally circular rather than parabolic. The inner bottom edge has a 0.2 mm handling break.

  • Geometry repairs: 0 of2. Rendering recovery: 1 of1, completing three final frames after a job timeout. A validation-script API correction did not change CAD.
  • PCB ERC/DRC does not apply to this mechanical-only design and is not a manufacturing approval.
Fastener access and assembly risks
Warning — axial socket access is blocked by the 70 mm lip. At65 mm stud pitch each stud lies at radius32.5, beneath the bell. A Ø14 mm cylindrical tool envelope from nut level through the top intersects approximately737 mm³ of trumpet. Do not plan straight axial socket tightening or drilling from the lip side.
The modeled flange allows nominal M6 stud, Ø12 washer and10 AF nut envelopes without interference: washer at z5..6.6; nut at z6.6..11.8; exposed stud through z15. Calculated washer-to-root radial margin at the flange is0.5 mm. Outward lateral14 mm-wide x5.5 mm-high tool corridors at nut height have zero overlap with the standalone stack, so a slim lateral open-ended wrench is plausible. Actual wrench-head shape, rotation sweep, neighboring carburetor/airbox access and assembly sequence remain unverified. Install the flange over studs, feed hardware laterally under the lip, and verify a real wrench before committing machining. Stock 23 mm stud overall length is not its installed protrusion; gasket and shoulder stack-up must be measured. Nominal washer+nut+flange stack is11.8 mm, excluding any gasket.
Hardware is assessed only by test envelopes: no screws, nuts, washers or sleeve are part of the delivered single-solid model. Do not use the clearance analysis as a torque or vibration-locking specification.
Process recommendations and release blockers
CNC plan: profile the bore and outer bell on a lathe/mill-turn; finish the underside datum, flange perimeter and drill/chamfer the two holes from the underside on a supported fixture. Target two workholding setups on suitable mill-turn equipment; separate lathe/mill equipment may require additional setups. Machining access under the lip, chuck/fixture contact and tools require shop CAM approval. A profiled/sacrificial support or soft-jaw/mandrel strategy is needed: unsupported height35 / minimum wall2.5 =14, above the10x chatter guideline. Preserve the parabolic bore during polishing; do not sand to an unspecified curve. No flow, structural, vibration, fatigue or engine performance testing was performed.
The open bore is not an enclosed cavity. Flange outline has tangent transitions; R1 neck root and0.2 flange/bore/hole edge breaks are explicitly modeled. No internal square pocket corners or tapped holes are present. Final dimensional tolerances, surface roughness, material certification, coating allowance, flatness and inspection gauges are NOT SPECIFIED pending shop/user agreement. A cosmetic print is not suitable evidence for engine-service material compatibility.
Installation release is blocked by these named measurements/confirmations:
  1. Actual carburetor model/tipo and manufacturer; confirm genuine45 DCOE versus clone, retained auxiliary-venturi type and locking method.
  2. Measure stud centers relative to inlet center, angle, M6 diameter/thread, installed protrusion and squareness. Confirm the65 mm opposed pattern and sufficient nut engagement with the selected washer/gasket.
  3. Measure actual inlet at the mounting face, counterbore and step profile, auxiliary-venturi mouth position, existing sleeve OD/ID/insertion depth/flange projection and any locating register. Confirm whether a flush45 mm bore can meet the existing retained sleeve without a harmful ledge or axial gap.
  4. Confirm independent auxiliary-venturi retention; where a sleeve is required, use the correct measured/sourced replacement. This model deliberately does not invent a negative-Z spigot or retention sleeve. Do not run the engine with unretained venturis.
  5. Provide a face-on dimensional map of every air/balance/starter passage and any protruding boss, with the sealing land and gasket outline. Until checked against the R28/two-ear footprint, passage obstruction is unverified. No guessed relief ports were cut.
  6. Confirm90 mm barrel spacing, adjacent flange/body/airbox clearance, filter envelope and sufficient intake clearance above the40 mm lip; nominal20 mm between paired lips does not qualify a filter installation.
  7. Check actual lateral wrench access and fastening sequence beneath the lip, and have the machinist confirm supported workholding and tolerances.
