LED Blinker Circuit Design

The router found a solution, but saving the routed traces back into the project timed out. I’m checking the board state now to see whether any routing was applied and whether there are remaining issues.
Routing is blocked by the routing service: the first pass found a route but timed out while saving it, and the second attempt was rate-limited before it could start. The board is still placed and ready; current review still shows the same unrouted connections because the routed result was not saved.
Next best step is to retry routing after the service rate limit clears, or route manually from the current 70 × 55 mm placed layout.

I retried the router, but the routing service rejected the new job before it could start. Per the routing retry guidance, I’m stopping here rather than repeatedly rerunning an expensive job: the placed 70 × 55 mm board is intact, but the traces were not saved, so the board still has unrouted connections.
Next step: retry auto-routing later once the service clears, or manually route the 14 remaining connections from the current placed layout.

Design Notes — 9V 555 Red LED Blinker
Requirements
  • Blink a red LED approximately once per second.
  • Power from a 9V block battery.
  • Include a user on/off switch.
  • Use easy-to-hand-solder components.
Architecture
  • 9V battery snap connector feeds an SPST through-hole slide switch.
  • Switched 9V rail powers an NE555P DIP-8 timer in astable mode.
  • The 555 output drives a 5mm red LED through a 1.5kΩ resistor to ground.
  • Timing network uses R1 = 47kΩ, R2 = 47kΩ, C1 = 10uF.
  • U1 VCC has 100nF local decoupling plus 10uF bulk capacitance.
  • U1 CONT/CV pin has a 10nF bypass capacitor to ground.
Timing Calculation
For a standard 555 astable:
  • High time: tH = 0.693 × (R1 + R2) × C1
  • Low time: tL = 0.693 × R2 × C1
  • Period: T = 0.693 × (R1 + 2R2) × C1
Using R1 = 47kΩ, R2 = 47kΩ, C1 = 10uF:
  • tH ≈ 0.693 × 94kΩ × 10uF ≈ 0.651s
  • tL ≈ 0.693 × 47kΩ × 10uF ≈ 0.326s
  • T ≈ 0.977s
  • Frequency ≈ 1.02Hz
This meets the target of one blink per second. Real-world electrolytic capacitor tolerance may shift the rate; use a tighter-tolerance timing capacitor or trimmer if exact blink timing is required.
LED Current
Assuming a red LED forward voltage near 2V:
  • ILED ≈ (9V − 2V) / 1.5kΩ ≈ 4.7mA
This is bright enough for a visible indicator while keeping current modest for a 9V block battery.
