ESP32-P4 Board Design Inquiry

I’ll tighten the placement around the ESP32-P4, flash, DSI connector, and SD socket to shorten the unrouted flash/DSI/SD nets, then rerun the relevant DRC/airwire check.
The first placement pass shortened the flash/DSI/SD paths, but it introduced a visible overlap around the SD socket and a Wi‑Fi edge warning. I’m correcting those before reporting the final check results.
Placement pass completed around the ESP32-P4: flash was pulled closer to U1, the DSI connector was moved closer to the ESP32-P4, display power stayed near it, and the SD socket was moved closer to reduce SD/DSI/flash airwire length.
Open items:
  • I’m blocked now because there are no available ACUs.
  • The placement pass introduced issues that still need cleanup: SD socket overlap, Wi‑Fi module edge/outside-board warning, and new overlapping-copper warnings.
  • DRC/airwire checks still need to be rerun after that cleanup.
Suggested next steps:
  1. Add ACUs, then ask me to fix the SD/Wi‑Fi placement issues.
  2. Rerun DRC and airwire checks.
  3. Resume routing once placement is clean.

First-Pass Design Notes
What was implemented
  • Renamed project and created Project Specification.
  • Added ESP32-P4NRW32 as main MCU.
  • Added external W25Q256 flash.
  • Added 12V automotive front end with SMBJ14A TVS and TPS54302 12V-to-5V buck block.
  • Added AP2112K 3.3V regulator.
  • Added SN65HVD230Q-Q1 3.3V CAN transceiver.
  • Added 120 ohm CAN termination resistor and TS3A24159 low-Ron analog switch for GPIO-controlled termination enable.
  • Added input connectors for battery/ground, ignition, left turn, right turn, high beam, and a display/CAN placeholder connector.
  • Added MIPI-DSI 2-lane signal labels to the display placeholder connector.
  • Added resistor-divider style input conditioning for ignition, left turn, right turn, and high beam.
Latest schematic cleanup
  • Added display/control nets:
    • DISPLAY_I2C_SCL
    • DISPLAY_I2C_SDA
    • DISPLAY_TOUCH_INT
    • DISPLAY_TOUCH_RST
    • DISPLAY_BL_PWM_OR_EN
    • DISPLAY_TE
  • Added I2C pullups and touch reset pullup.
  • Wired status LED to an ESP32-P4 GPIO through a resistor.
  • Wired reset and boot buttons.
  • Wired flash VCC/GND/reset.
  • Wired ESP32-P4 MIPI/power-support pins and added placeholder nets for USB HS and crystal pins pending final hardware-guideline implementation.
  • Wired TPS54302 BOOT capacitor and feedback placeholder path.
  • Marked intentionally unused GPIO/CSI/analog-switch/spare-passive pins no-connect.
ERC result
Latest ERC query for floating pins, single-pin nets, power-pin issues, no-connect issues, and undriven nets returned no open warnings/errors.
Important caveats before layout/manufacturing
  • This is still a first-pass architecture schematic; several support networks are placeholders.
  • Exact Waveshare 4-DSI-TOUCH-C FFC connector pinout, orientation, and mechanical mating details must be confirmed before final PCB layout.
  • ESP32-P4 crystal, USB HS, internal DCDC/LDO details, and MIPI REXT values need final validation against the latest Espressif hardware design guideline.
  • TPS54302 feedback values, compensation assumptions, and passive values need final calculation.
  • The current analog switch symbol has generic duplicate pin names, so the CAN termination-switch pin assignment must be verified against the TS3A24159 datasheet before PCB layout.
  • Automotive transient compliance target is not yet defined; front-end protection should be upgraded if ISO 7637/ISO 16750 load-dump compliance is required.
