PA System Schematic Design

Work done
  • Audited the existing UART translator connections on U2, U3, and U4, confirming the original mapping: U2 IO17 -> UART_ESP_TX -> U4 A1, U2 IO16 -> UART_ESP_RX -> U4 A2, U3 P3-0/RXD -> UART_8051_RX -> U4 B1, U3 P3-1/TXD -> UART_8051_TX -> U4 B2, with VCCA/OE on +3V3, VCCB on +5V, and GND on GND.
  • Searched the library for the requested 12-pin HV/LV breakout module and confirmed the exact common module was not available; I also submitted a library coverage request for that module.
  • Rewired a newly added 12-terminal U4 replacement so the UART and power nets currently resolve as +5V -> VCCB, +3V3 -> VCCA/OE, GND -> GND, UART_ESP_TX -> A1, UART_8051_RX -> B1, UART_ESP_RX -> A2, and UART_8051_TX -> B2.
Success criteria review
  • ✅ Existing UART and power connectivity for the original translator section was identified and preserved functionally.
  • ✅ High-voltage UART side still maps to the 5 V U3 interface, and low-voltage UART side still maps to the 3.3 V U2 interface.
  • ✅ Power distribution in the modified section still resolves to +5V, +3V3, and GND, and the targeted ERC checks reported no missing power, no single-pin nets, no undriven nets, and no pin-to-pin conflicts.
  • ❌ The exact requested 12-pin HV/LV module with pins HV, HV1, HV2, HV3, HV4, GND, LV, LV1, LV2, LV3, LV4, GND is not placed in the schematic, because that exact module is not available in the library.
  • ❌ The schematic now shows two U4 instances in context, so the replacement is not in a clean final state matching your plan.
Next steps I could not fully complete the exact module swap in this session. The remaining work is to remove the leftover original U4 instance and replace it with the exact 12-pin HV/LV module once that part exists in the library, then reconnect HV/LV/HV1/HV2/LV1/LV2 and mark unused channels. If the exact module becomes available, I can finish that mapping cleanly.
