PCB-First vs Enclosure-First Design

Briefly describe what it's like to design a complete product in Flux. Help me understand what the PCB-first and enclosure-first design workflows are like to work with.
Designing a complete product in Flux means working through the electronics, PCB, firmware, and mechanical enclosure together—checking their interfaces as the design develops.
  • PCB-first: Start with the circuit, place connectors and components, then shape an enclosure around the board. This fits electronics-driven projects and prototypes; the trade-off is that the enclosure may need to grow to accommodate the PCB.
  • Enclosure-first: Start with the product’s size, mounting, controls, and connector openings, then design the board to fit. This suits products with tight physical constraints; the trade-off is more constrained component placement and routing.
In practice, both workflows involve iteration: check connector access, mounting, clearances, heat, and assembly before committing to manufacturing. For this retro-PC project, either could work depending on whether the electronics or the external form matters most.
I haven’t changed your project. Execution stopped because your ACUs ran out.
