PMW3325DB-TWV1 Breadboard Adapter

Yes — good catch. The adapter PCB should be shaped so the PMW3325’s optical face is exposed, not buried against the board.
I’d update the layout plan to use one of these mechanical approaches:
  1. Board-edge / cantilever mount — preferred
    • Place the PMW3325 at the PCB edge with the optical aperture facing outward/downward.
    • Let the sensor/lens area overhang or sit in an edge notch so the sensor bottom is unobstructed.
    • Put the support electronics and breadboard headers behind it.
  2. Large internal cutout
    • Mount the chip on the PCB, but add a routed rectangular/rounded aperture under the optical window/lens.
    • Keep copper, solder mask, silkscreen, and components away from the optical path.
  3. Small daughter tongue
    • Narrow PCB tongue holds only the PMW3325 and lens geometry.
    • Wider rear section carries the headers, regulator, and translators.
For this adapter I’d choose option 1 or 3: a breadboard-width rear section with the PMW3325 at a front edge/notch, mounted so the optical face and LM31/LM33 lens have clear access to the surface. We’ll also add mechanical standoff/foot references to maintain the datasheet’s 2.4 mm typical tracking height.

Good choice — we’ll use option 3: small daughter tongue.
Design intent:
  • Rear section: breadboard-friendly 0.1" headers, 2.0 V LDO, translators/buffers, test points.
  • Front narrow tongue: PMW3325 only, mounted at/near the end so the underside optical aperture and LM31/LM33 lens are clear.
  • Add a board cutout/notch around the optical path and keep copper/silkscreen away from the lens area.
  • Add standoff/foot reference points near the sensor to maintain the 2.4 mm typical tracking height.
When you create the editable project, I’ll build the schematic first, then shape the PCB around this tongue-style mechanical layout before placement.

I can’t create the new project directly from this view-only project, but use this link to create the editable project with the full design prompt preloaded:
After it opens, send me a message in that new project and I’ll build the schematic first, then move to the daughter-tongue PCB layout after ERC is clean.
