ESP32 Part Review

I’ll update the terminal metadata from Espressif Table 3-2: pin descriptions, electrical pin types, and broad sections, while marking the extra 33–40 pads as EPAD/GND subdivisions since they are not separate datasheet pins.
Metadata is ready to apply: I’ll use broad, single functional sections per pin and preserve the current 40-terminal structure by documenting pins 33–40 as non-datasheet EPAD/GND subdivisions.
Updated and verified all 40 terminal records with datasheet-backed Pin Description, Pin Type, and Section metadata.
Open items:
  • Pins 33–40 are still modeled as extra terminals; I documented them as non-datasheet EPAD/GND subdivisions that should belong electrically to pin 29.
  • Pin 29 is still named GND_3; its description now identifies it as EPAD.
Suggested next steps:
  1. Collapse pads 33–40 into pin 29 EPAD/GND in the footprint mapping.
  2. Rename GND_3 to EPAD or EPAD/GND.
  3. Re-run a final part quality check after the pin model is corrected.

Part Datasheet Review — ESP32-C5-WROOM-1U-N8R8
Date: 2026-07-14
Scope
Reviewed available part metadata, schematic terminals, footprint pad definitions, and pin descriptions for the Flux part project ESP32-C5-WROOM-1U-N8R8 against the official Espressif datasheet.
Sources
Note: A Datasheet URL was already present, so the conditional “if no datasheet URL is already set” did not apply. The existing URL points to the DigiKey product page rather than the direct official Espressif PDF.

Cross-Check Results
Symbol / Terminal Model

Table

CheckResult
Pins 1–28 namesMatch datasheet names and numbering.
Pin 29Current symbol names it GND_3; datasheet names it EPAD with ground function. This is functionally ground but semantically mislabeled.
Pins 30–32Match basic functions: GND, ANT2, GND.
Pins 33–40Mismatch: datasheet has no module pins 33–40. Current part exposes GND_6 through GND_13 as schematic terminals.
Pin descriptionsMissing / not populated; all inspected terminals lack datasheet-backed descriptions.
Pin typesAll inspected terminals are Unspecified; datasheet provides P/I/I-O-T roles.
Footprint

Table

CheckResult
Module outlineFootprint fab outline is 18.0 mm × 21.2 mm, matching datasheet nominal module size.
Edge pad pitch / sizeEdge pads use 1.27 mm pitch and 0.9 mm × 1.5 mm land size, consistent with datasheet land-pattern values.
Pad count / pad numberingFootprint contains 40 physical pad objects. Datasheet defines 32 electrical module pins.
Central ground/thermal areaExtra central 1.3 mm square pads may be a legitimate split implementation of the EPAD land, but they should map electrically to pin 29, not to independent pins 33–40.
ANT2Pad 31 is present and should be treated as a 50 ohm RF pad if used; datasheet notes ANT2 is disabled by default unless arranged with Espressif.
Mismatches / Issues Flagged
  1. High severity — 40 schematic terminals vs 32 datasheet pins
The Flux part exposes pins 33–40 as independent GND terminals, but the official Espressif datasheet states ESP32-C5-WROOM-1U has 32 pins and Table 3-2 stops at pin 32.
  2. High severity — footprint pad mapping likely wrong for EPAD split pads
The additional central copper shapes may be valid physical EPAD subdivisions, but they should be tied to the single electrical pin 29 EPAD/GND, not modeled as separate pins 33–40.
  3. Medium severity — pin 29 naming
Pin 29 should be named EPAD or EPAD/GND; current GND_3 loses the exposed-pad meaning.
  4. Medium severity — terminal pin types missing
All terminals are Unspecified. Datasheet-backed types should be assigned: power for 3V3, ground/power for GND/EPAD, input for EN, bidirectional for GPIOs, RF/passive for ANT2, and NC/no-connect for NC pins.
  5. Medium severity — pin descriptions missing
Pin descriptions should be populated from Table 3-2 so users see alternate functions and constraints, especially EN, NC/IO15, USB D-/D+, UART, and ANT2.
  6. Low severity — Datasheet URL property quality
The part has a Datasheet URL set, but it points to a DigiKey product page rather than the direct official Espressif PDF. The official PDF URL should be preferred for long-term part quality.
  1. Reduce the user-visible schematic terminal count to the 32 datasheet pins.
  2. Rename pin 29 to EPAD or EPAD/GND.
  3. If the footprint keeps the nine central thermal/ground copper shapes, map every central EPAD subdivision to electrical pin 29 instead of exposing pins 33–40.
  4. Populate pin descriptions from Table 3-2.
  5. Set pin types from the datasheet.
  6. Prefer the official Espressif datasheet PDF URL for the part Datasheet URL property.
Final Assessment
The part is not fully datasheet-consistent as currently modeled. The first 32 electrical pins are mostly correct, but pins 33–40 should not be exposed as independent module pins. The footprint geometry may be physically acceptable if those central pads are EPAD subdivisions, but the schematic symbol and symbol-to-footprint pin mapping need correction before this part should be considered production-quality.
