TE Part Review

I’ll inspect the part metadata, find and attach the official datasheet if needed, then compare the symbol/footprint/pins against the datasheet and report any mismatches.
I found the existing Datasheet URL pointed to an unrelated TE heat-shrink tubing PDF, so I updated it to the official TE customer drawing for 2438987-1. I’m now verifying pins and footprint geometry against that drawing.

Updated the Datasheet URL to the official TE Connectivity customer drawing and created the full review in Part Review: TE Connectivity 2438987-1.
Open items:
  • Major footprint mismatches flagged: 2.50 mm row spacing vs 3.00 mm datasheet requirement, shell holes shifted 0.50 mm relative to signal datum, and round shell holes instead of specified obround slots.
  • Symbol pinout matches pins 1–9, but pin descriptions and electrical pin types are missing.
Suggested next steps:
  1. Correct the footprint geometry to the TE drawing.
  2. Add pin descriptions/types for all 13 terminals.
  3. Re-check the footprint against the STEP model after edits.

Symbol/pin-description findings
  • Pin assignment is correct for pins 1–9.
  • Terminal count is correct at 13.
  • Pin descriptions are not populated; all terminals report Pin Type: Unspecified and lack explicit Pin Description fields.
  • Recommended improvement: mark VBUS as power, GND pins as ground, USB data pins as signal/high-speed, and MH1–MH4 as shield/mechanical/shell connections with descriptions.

After translating the Flux footprint so pin 7 becomes the datasheet datum, x' = x - 3.5, y' = y + 2.5:

Table

AreaResult
Pins 5–9 X/YMatch datasheet.
Pins 1–4 XMatch datasheet.
Pins 1–4 YCurrent footprint gives +2.50 mm; datasheet requires +3.00 mm. USB2 row is 0.50 mm too close to USB3 row.
Row spacingCurrent footprint uses 2.50 mm; datasheet requires 3.00 mm.
Shell leg XMatches datasheet after translation.
Shell leg YCurrent footprint gives -0.50 mm and +3.50 mm; datasheet requires 0.00 mm and +4.00 mm. Shell pattern is shifted 0.50 mm relative to signal datum.
Shell geometryCurrent footprint uses round holes/pads; datasheet specifies obround plated slots with much smaller 0.80 mm slot width and rectangular/obround lands.
Signal hole/pad sizesSignal Ø0.70 drill and Ø1.30 land match datasheet, except pad 1 is rectangular instead of the circular land shown in the drawing.
Fab/body outlineFootprint fab outline dimensions approximately match 13.10 mm × 6.06 mm body callouts.
CourtyardDatasheet does not specify an explicit courtyard; current courtyard cannot be directly validated against the datasheet.
Mismatch summary
Major footprint mismatches
  1. USB2-to-USB3 row spacing mismatch: Flux footprint uses 2.50 mm; TE drawing specifies 3.00 mm. This moves pins 1–4 by 0.50 mm relative to pins 5–9.
  2. Shell/shield hole placement mismatch: shell leg pattern is shifted 0.50 mm relative to the signal datum when pins 5–9 are aligned.
  3. Shell/shield hole geometry mismatch: Flux uses oversized round holes/pads; TE drawing specifies obround plated slots and obround/rectangular lands.
Symbol/property mismatches or omissions
  1. Pin descriptions are missing.
  2. Pin electrical types are all Unspecified.
  3. Shell pins are named MH1–MH4; acceptable as mechanical hole identifiers, but they should be described as shield/shell solder legs.
  4. Mount metadata says Solder; more specific through-hole solder termination metadata would be clearer if supported.
  1. Correct the footprint to TE drawing coordinates: use 3.00 mm row spacing and shell leg Y positions aligned to the datum.
  2. Replace round shell holes with the datasheet-specified obround plated slots and lands.
  3. Add pin descriptions and pin electrical types for all 13 terminals.
  4. Consider adding detailed connector metadata: connector type USB Type-A, gender/receptacle, positions 9 signal + 4 shield, vertical/top-mount, through-hole solder.
  5. Re-run a visual/mechanical check against the STEP model after footprint correction.
