Edit existing designs

## Your CAD files. Edited by AI.

Most mechanical work is a change to a part that already exists. Bring a STEP, IGES, or BREP file from SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, Creo, Inventor, Onshape, or Fusion. Ask for the change in plain words. Flux changes the part and saves a new STEP file and editable CAD code.

The request, as typed in Flux

“The holder must cover a much taller power supply. Make the bent side flange 40 mm deeper. Keep the 4.4 mm hole in the flange where it is. Then cut five 5 x 30 mm vertical vent slots in the new part of the flange, 15 mm apart and centered on the flange width.”

Before: the STEP file from Autodesk Inventor. The bent flange is 24.5 mm deep.

![After: the flange is 64.5 mm deep, with five 5 × 30 mm vent slots. The 4.4 mm hole did not move. Flux saves a new STEP file and editable CAD code.](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/teams-step-edit-psu-after.webp)

After: the flange is 64.5 mm deep, with five 5 × 30 mm vent slots. The 4.4 mm hole did not move. Flux saves a new STEP file and editable CAD code.

### Your file stays safe

The original file stays in the project, unchanged. Flux saves each edit as a new file.

### Editable CAD code

Each edit is CAD code that your engineers can open and change. When Flux rebuilds a part as code, it checks the code against your file.

### Back to your CAD tool

Export STEP and continue the work in the tool your team uses.

Capabilities

## Your mechanical team's favorite teammate.

![3D view of a device enclosure, circuit boards, wiring, and mounts](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/teams-device-cutaway.webp)

### Designs new parts around real hardware

Ask for a bracket, mount, or enclosure. Flux builds it around the real 3D models of your boards and parts.

- ![NVIDIA](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/teams-logos/nvidia.svg)
- ![Siemens](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/teams-logos/siemens.svg)

### Picks the right CAD kernel for each part

OpenCascade, NVIDIA SMLib, and Siemens Parasolid on request. Flux switches kernels when one cannot build a feature.

![Stress analysis of an aluminum bracket](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/verification-lab-bracket-stress.webp)

### Checks its own parts before you build

Strength, heat, and airflow simulation on the part, before the first prototype.

Adaptive model selection

### Gets the best from every frontier model

Frontier performance at 30% lower cost. Adaptive model selection gives each task to the right model.

Parallel AI engineers

### Splits big jobs across parallel AI engineers

Give one request. Flux plans the work, runs parts of it at the same time, and reports back.

Workflow

## From requirement to a part you can build, Flux does the mechanical work.

1. ### Start from real parts

One part library for the whole product: 3D models of the electronic parts and other devices in your product, and screws, standoffs, and other mechanical hardware, with stock from McMaster-Carr, MISUMI, and JLCMC.

    734,000+ public parts

![Flux Library search results for McMaster-Carr screws and a heat-set insert, with 3D models](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/mcad-part-library-mcmaster.webp)

2. ### Design and edit

Parametric enclosures, brackets, and mounts, or changes to the STEP files you bring in. Your engineers can open the CAD code and change it.

![3D view of a device enclosure, circuit boards, wiring, and mounts](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/teams-device-cutaway.webp)

3. ### Verify

Strength, heat, and airflow simulation on the part, before the first prototype.

    ### Manufacturing

Live sourcing, cost, and manufacturer-ready outputs.

Collaboration

## Your team, your partners, and your AI engineers in one live project.

Flux runs in the browser. Everyone opens the same project, sees the same live design, and works on it at the same time. No files to send back and forth.

- ### Edit together in real time.

Engineers, reviewers, and AI engineers work in the same project at the same time. You see who is in the project and what they have selected.

- ### Every change is saved.

Flux records each change, who made it, and when. Open any earlier version, or restore it as a new project.

- ### One shared space for your organization.

Your organization's projects, parts, and design standards live in one place. Give the whole organization view, comment, or edit access.

- ### Work with suppliers, clients, and contractors.

Invite anyone to one project by email, with view, comment, or edit access. They get that project, not the rest of your organization.

- ### Review where the design is.

Comment in the project and @mention a teammate. The discussion stays with the design.

- ### Try ideas without risk.

Fork a project to test an idea. The main design does not change.

Customizable

## Learns your team's rules and follows them on every project.

Every team builds hardware its own way. Teach Flux your standards, connect it to your tools, and let it build the small apps each project needs.

### Team knowledge

Onboard Flux like a new engineer. Write your design guidelines, preferred parts, and lessons learned once, and every AI engineer in your organization applies them on every project.

### Your rules

Define your layout rules and manufacturer capabilities once. Flux checks every design against them, every time.

### Your tools, connected

Connect any MCP server, or give Flux a key to any web API. Push firmware to your repository, read crash reports from devices in the field, or use the tools your team built itself.

### Keys stay secret

Admins add API keys once for the whole organization. The AI engineer uses them but never sees them. Flux adds each key only to requests sent to the services you allow.

### Interactive pages

Ask for a one-off tool, and Flux builds it as a live page in the project: a power budget calculator that updates as parts change, a bring-up checklist that tracks progress, or a test report with charts.

### Flux in your AI tools

Use Flux from Cursor or any general AI agent that supports its tools. Your agents can read and edit Flux projects and hand design jobs to the Flux AI engineer.

Connects to the services your team already uses.

## Questions mechanical teams ask.

### Can Flux edit our existing CAD files?

Yes. Bring in STEP files from tools like SolidWorks, CATIA, Creo, Onshape, NX, and Fusion, and ask for the change in plain words. Flux changes the imported part and saves a new STEP file and editable CAD code.

### Can Flux change one part of a large assembly?

Yes. Flux changes the part you name and keeps the other parts where they are.

### Which CAD kernels does Flux use?

OpenCascade and NVIDIA SMLib, with Siemens Parasolid on request. The AI engineer picks the right kernel for each part, and brings every part together in one model.

### Which mechanical simulations does Flux run?

Strength, heat, and airflow, so the AI engineer checks its own parts before you build them.

### Does the part library include mechanical hardware?

Yes. It has screws, standoffs, and other mechanical hardware with 3D models, next to the electronic parts and devices in your product.

### How is Flux different from using Claude or Codex?

Claude and Codex are general AI agents. They can write CAD scripts, but they cannot open your STEP files, run engineering simulation, or look up real parts. Flux runs the same frontier models inside a complete mechanical engineering environment, in projects that your whole team shares.

### Which AI models does Flux use?

Frontier models from OpenAI and Anthropic. Adaptive model selection gives each task to the model that does it best, at 30% lower cost than using the top model for everything.

### Is our design data secure?

Flux runs on SOC 2-aligned cloud infrastructure, with single sign-on and project-level permissions. Your inputs and outputs are always your IP, and Flux does not train on customer data.

### Can we teach Flux our design standards?

Yes. Write your design guidelines, preferred parts, and rules once, and every AI engineer in your organization applies them. You can also connect your own tools through MCP.

### How much does it cost?

The same Teams plan as /p/teams: $500 a month with shared seats and AI usage units. One plan covers mechanical, electronics, and firmware work.
