Edit the enclosure you have

## Your housing files. Edited by AI.

Bring the housing from SOLIDWORKS, Fusion, or NX, or a STEP, IGES, or BREP file from any CAD tool. Ask for the change in plain words, for example "make it 8 mm taller and keep the mounting bosses in place". Flux changes the housing and saves a new STEP file and editable CAD code.

The request, as typed in Flux

“The holder must cover a much taller power supply. Make the bent side flange 40 mm deeper. Keep the 4.4 mm hole in the flange where it is. Then cut five 5 x 30 mm vertical vent slots in the new part of the flange, 15 mm apart and centered on the flange width.”

![Before: the STEP file from Autodesk Inventor. The bent flange is 24.5 mm deep.](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/teams-step-edit-psu-before.webp)

Before: the STEP file from Autodesk Inventor. The bent flange is 24.5 mm deep.

![After: the flange is 64.5 mm deep, with five 5 × 30 mm vent slots. The 4.4 mm hole did not move. Flux saves a new STEP file and editable CAD code.](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/teams-step-edit-psu-after.webp)

After: the flange is 64.5 mm deep, with five 5 × 30 mm vent slots. The 4.4 mm hole did not move. Flux saves a new STEP file and editable CAD code.

### Your file stays safe

The original file stays in the project, unchanged. Flux saves each edit as a new file.

### Parametric by default

Flux builds the enclosure as editable CAD code. Change the wall thickness or the mounting-hole spacing and the enclosure follows.

### Back to your CAD tool

Export the full assembly as STEP and continue the work in the tool your team uses.

### Moves the opening when the connector moves

Move a connector or a mounting hole on the board, and Flux updates the enclosure to match. Change the enclosure, and Flux updates the board outline.

Rigid-flex in the enclosure

### Folds the flex board into the housing

Flux folds a rigid-flex board at each flex joint and checks its fit around the enclosure and battery.

Workflow

## From a board to an enclosure you can build, Flux does the work.

1. ### Start from the board or a sketch

Start from the board in your Flux project or an IDF board from your ECAD tool. Add a hand sketch, a photo, or a dimensioned drawing, and Flux matches its shape and dimensions.

![Mini Muse concept sketch with labeled features](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/solutions-mini-muse-concept-sketch.webp)

2. ### Design for the process

Two-part shells with snap fits and a removable lid. Injection-molded housings with draft, ribs, bosses, and a parting line. Sheet-metal covers with a DXF flat pattern. Hinges with a set opening angle. Screws, threaded inserts, standoffs, and fans come from the part library.

![Curvature combs on an enclosure in the Flux 3D view](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/pcb-3d-analysis-curvature-combs.webp)

3. ### Verify

Air flow through the vents and fan, heat through the enclosure wall, and stress on the shell, before the first prototype.

![Stress plots of six load cases on the Mini Muse PETG parts.](https://www.flux.ai/p/assets/homepage-v2/mcad-mini-muse-stress-plots.webp)

Stress plots of six load cases on the Mini Muse PETG parts.

4. ### Make it

Flux checks the part against SLA, SLS/MJF, CNC, sheet metal, laser cutting, and injection molding limits. Export STEP, STL, and 3MF, make dimensioned drawings with GD&T, and get quotes from Craftcloud, JLC and PCBWay 3D printing, Shapeways, OSH Cut, and SendCutSend.

Collaboration

## Your team, your partners, and your AI engineers in one live project.

Flux runs in the browser. Everyone opens the same project, sees the same live design, and works on it at the same time. No files to send back and forth.

- ### Edit together in real time.

Engineers, reviewers, and AI engineers work in the same project at the same time. You see who is in the project and what they have selected.

- ### Every change is saved.

Flux records each change, who made it, and when. Open any earlier version, or restore it as a new project.

- ### One shared space for your organization.

Your organization's projects, parts, and design standards live in one place. Give the whole organization view, comment, or edit access.

- ### Work with suppliers, clients, and contractors.

Invite anyone to one project by email, with view, comment, or edit access. They get that project, not the rest of your organization.

- ### Review where the design is.

Comment in the project and @mention a teammate. The discussion stays with the design.

- ### Try ideas without risk.

Fork a project to test an idea. The main design does not change.

Customizable

## Learns your team's rules and follows them on every project.

Every team builds hardware its own way. Teach Flux your standards, connect it to your tools, and let it build the small apps each project needs.

### Team knowledge

Onboard Flux like a new engineer. Write your design guidelines, preferred parts, and lessons learned once, and every AI engineer in your organization applies them on every project.

### Your rules

Define your layout rules and manufacturer capabilities once. Flux checks every design against them, every time.

### Your tools, connected

Connect any MCP server, or give Flux a key to any web API. Push firmware to your repository, read crash reports from devices in the field, or use the tools your team built itself.

### Keys stay secret

Admins add API keys once for the whole organization. The AI engineer uses them but never sees them. Flux adds each key only to requests sent to the services you allow.

### Interactive pages

Ask for a one-off tool, and Flux builds it as a live page in the project: a power budget that recalculates when you change a load, a bring-up checklist that tracks progress, or a 3D assembly you can turn and take apart.

### Flux in your AI tools

Use Flux from Cursor or any general AI agent that supports its tools. Your agents can read and edit Flux projects and hand design jobs to the Flux AI engineer.

Connects to the services your team already uses.

## Questions about enclosure design.

### Can Flux design an enclosure for my PCB?

Yes. Ask Flux to design an enclosure around the board. Flux uses the board outline, mounting holes, connector positions, and part heights. It aligns the supports to the mounting holes, adds openings for the connectors, and leaves space for cables and displays. See [ECAD and MCAD Co-Design](https://docs.flux.ai/reference/ecad-mcad-co-design).

### My board is in another ECAD tool. Can Flux still design the enclosure?

Yes. Upload the IDF 2.0 or 3.0 board file (.emn) with its part library (.emp). Flux imports the board outline, cutouts, holes, part placements, and part heights, then designs the enclosure around them. You can also import the board from Altium, KiCad, and other ECAD tools and continue the electronics in Flux.

### Which enclosure features can Flux design?

Two-part shells, removable lids, snap fits, screw bosses, ribs, draft angles, parting lines, hinges, vents, battery compartments, and connector openings. Flux also designs sheet-metal covers and chassis with bends, flanges, and a DXF flat pattern.

### How does Flux check that the board fits?

Flux checks interference between the board and the enclosure, the space in front of each connector, and tool access to each screw. It computes worst-case and RSS tolerance stack-ups from the board to the enclosure and proposes changes. In the 3D view, you can cut through the assembly and measure any gap. See [Fit and Clearance](https://docs.flux.ai/reference/fit-and-clearance).

### What happens when the board changes?

Tell Flux what changed. Flux updates the openings, supports, and lid clearance to match the new connector positions, mounting holes, or part heights. When the enclosure changes, Flux can update the board outline and move parts to keep clearance from the walls.

### Can Flux simulate airflow and heat in the enclosure?

Yes. Flux simulates air flow and temperature inside the enclosure with vents, fans, and heatsinks, and heat conduction through the enclosure wall. It reports peak temperatures, outlet air temperature, and flow rates. See [Simulation](https://docs.flux.ai/reference/simulation).

### Can Flux design an enclosure from a sketch or a photo?

Yes. Attach a hand sketch, a photo, a render, or a dimensioned drawing in the chat. Flux matches its proportions and dimensions and builds the enclosure for the board in your project.

### How do I manufacture the enclosure?

Flux checks the part against the limits of SLA, SLS/MJF, CNC milling, sheet metal, laser cutting, and injection molding. Export STEP, STL, or 3MF, create a dimensioned drawing with GD&T, and ask Flux for 3D-print, CNC, and sheet-metal quotes.

### Can Flux add screws, inserts, and standoffs?

Yes. The part library has screws, nuts, washers, threaded inserts, standoffs, fans, and heat sinks with 3D models. Ask Flux to find the hardware and place it at the enclosure mounts.

### Can Flux design more than enclosures?

Yes. Flux designs brackets, mounts, mechanisms, and complete products, and the electronics and firmware inside them. See [Flux for mechanical design](https://www.flux.ai/p/mcad) and [Flux for electronics design](https://www.flux.ai/p/eda).

### How much does it cost?

The [Teams plan](https://www.flux.ai/p/pricing) is $500 a month with shared seats and AI usage units, and covers mechanical, electronics, and firmware work.
