Your goal is to build the IP5306 UPS HAT with USB-C power, audio, haptics, and an external controller port wired to Pi I2C/I2S and 5V rails.

Planned steps:

Add: IP5306, USB-C receptacle, JST-PH-2 right-angle, 470uF Capacitor, Inductor, Tactile Switch, 4x LED + Resistor, WM8960, 2x PJ-320A, DRV2605L, 2-pin pad, JST-SH 6-pin.
Wire: USB-C VBUS->IP5306 VIN; JST-PH->BATT+/−; IP5306 5V OUT->5V rail; bulk 470–1000 µF at 5V OUT; KEY->switch->GND; LEDx->LED->R->GND; I2C (GPIO2/3) to WM8960, DRV2605L, JST-SH with 4.7 k pull-ups; I2S (GPIO18/19/21/20) to WM8960; DRV2605L OUT->LRA pad; JST-SH pins: 3.3V, GND, SDA, SCL, GPIO17, GPIO27.
Place: USB-C/JSTs/jacks on board edge; cluster IP5306+inductor+ceramics with short, thick loops; keep audio away from switcher.

#Goal

Design and implement an IP5306-based LiPo UPS board integrated into a Raspberry Pi HAT template. The design will feature a USB-C input for charging, a right-angle JST-PH battery connector, and a 470–1000 μF bulk capacitor on the 5V rail. It will include a KEY button with 4 associated status LEDs. Additionally, the board will integrate WM8960 codec paired with two PJ-320A jacks for audio, a DRV2605L haptics driver with an LRA pad, and a JST-SH 6-pin connector for an external controller. All components will be wired appropriately to the Pi’s I2C/I2S and 5V rails, with connectors placed at the board edge and switching components clustered to minimize loop inductance.

#Implementation plan

Power Subsystem and UPS Integration
1. Add the IP5306 component and configure connections:
  - Connect USB-C VBUS to VIN on IP5306.
  - Wire battery connections (BATT+ and BATT−) to the right-angle JST-PH connector.
  - Route the 5V output from IP5306 to the board’s 5V rail.
2. Place and connect the 470–1000 μF bulk capacitor at the 5V output to stabilize the power supply.
3. Integrate the KEY button and connect it to ground through a tactile switch, ensuring a corresponding LED indication by wiring 4 status LEDs (each with a resistor to ground) to reflect system status.
Audio and Codec Integration
1. Add the WM8960 codec and place it to maintain sufficient clearance from switching noise.
2. Connect the codec’s I2S pins to the Pi’s I2S lines (GPIO18/19/20/21).
3. Add the two PJ-320A jacks and wire them to the WM8960, ensuring proper audio signal routing.
Haptics Integration
1. Add the DRV2605L haptics driver and connect its output to an LRA pad.
2. Connect the DRV2605L’s I2C lines to the Pi’s I2C (GPIO2/3) along with proper pull-ups.
External Controller Integration
1. Add the JST-SH 6-pin connector and assign its pins for VCC, GND, SDA, SCL, and additional GPIO (GPIO17 and GPIO27).
2. Connect the I2C interface from the Pi to the JST-SH connector.
Wiring and Layout Considerations
1. Wire the IP5306, and other power components carefully to minimize loop inductance. Cluster the switching components (IP5306, inductor, and ceramics) together.
2. Place USB-C, JST connectors, and audio jacks along the board edge as specified.
3. Route all power traces with sufficient thickness to handle current demands and ensure proper grounding throughout the design.
4. Verify that all connections are made to the designated Pi GPIO pins (I2C, I2S and 5V rail) based on the Raspberry Pi HAT template in context.

#Success criteria

All major ICs (IP5306, WM8960, DRV2605L) and connectors (USB-C, JST-PH, PJ-320A, JST-SH) are correctly added, configured, and placed.
The power subsystem maintains stable 5V output with a properly placed bulk capacitor and properly wired battery and charging circuits.
Audio and I2S lines are insulated from switching noise and correctly routed.
The I2C lines are properly pulled up and shared among WM8960, DRV2605L, and the JST-SH external controller.
Placement constraints ensure that connectors are at the board edge and that high-speed/sensitive components are isolated as required.
The design passes ERC/DRC checks and meets standard production-grade hardware requirements.
