Project overview
A prototype dockable handheld gaming console built around a custom SBC/carrier board, targeting performance comparable to the Radxa X4.
Core design
- Compute: x86 preferred; currently based on the LattePanda Mu with Intel N100
- Operating systems: UEFI-based dual boot for Windows and Linux initially, with support for developing a custom OS
- Display: approximately 7.5–8 inches, preferably 16:10
- Controls: permanently integrated, Steam Deck-style controls and ergonomic grips
- Battery: approximately 45–50 Wh, targeting about five hours in lighter games such as Minecraft and Roblox
- Weight target: roughly 600–650 g
- Storage: replaceable NVMe SSD
- Cooling: active cooling with controllable fan
- Docking: one recessed, full-featured USB‑C port
USB‑C requirements
The same USB‑C port is intended to support:
- USB Power Delivery charging input
- Controlled power output for peripherals
- High-speed USB data
- DisplayPort Alt Mode video
- Dock communication and accessories
- Charging, monitor, Ethernet, and USB peripherals through a custom Switch-style dock
Development strategy
The first electronics revision should be a larger bring-up carrier board for the LattePanda Mu rather than the final compact handheld motherboard. After validating compute, power, display, storage, controls, audio, cooling, and docking, it can be miniaturized into the enclosure-specific motherboard.
Current project state
The project currently contains only the LattePanda Mu component and has no implemented nets. The support circuitry, verified schematic, BOM, PCB layout, Gerbers, and pick-and-place files still need to be created.
