Drum Machine Requirements
User request
Create a drum-machine PCB based on an ATmega controller with:
- A speaker.
- 16 buttons for a step sequencer.
- Four knobs for parameter control.
- A display.
Current state
The project has no components or nets. No schematic, component selection, PCB layout, or verification has been performed. Execution stopped because the account ran out of ACUs.
Decisions still needed
- Power source: USB, battery, or external DC.
- Sound engine: synthesized percussion versus sampled sounds, and desired simultaneous voices; these affect ATmega selection, memory, and audio circuitry.
- Approximate board dimensions and control arrangement.
- Display type and size; no selection has been made.
- Speaker loudness/size and whether headphone or line output is required.
Next session
Clarify power and sound-engine requirements first, then select an appropriate ATmega and audio architecture. Include speaker amplification, four potentiometer inputs, button scanning, display interface, programming connection, power regulation, and decoupling. Capture and verify the schematic before proceeding to PCB placement and routing. Do not treat any architecture or component as approved yet.
