I want to built a USB 2 hub using the USB2514B controller from microchip. I linked relevent documents in the Reference Document file. Generate a product requirements doc, a design spec for schematic capture, a component selection and BOM tracker, a design review template, a test and validation plan, and a DFM checklist for pre-production.

Test and Validation Plan
1. Objective
Verify that the USB2514B-based USB 2.0 hub powers up reliably, enumerates correctly, routes data on all enabled ports, enforces the intended power policy, and is ready for pre-production.
2. Test Matrix

3. Required Equipment
  • Bench 5 V and 3.3 V supplies or production-equivalent source
  • Oscilloscope with differential or appropriate probing
  • USB protocol analyzer or host-side enumeration logs
  • Electronic loads / USB load fixtures
  • USB 2.0 HS-capable devices and hosts
  • Thermal camera or thermocouples
  • DMM
4. Bring-Up Order
  1. Visual inspection
  2. Continuity / shorts check
  3. Apply power without USB host and verify rails
  4. Verify RESET_N timing
  5. Verify 24 MHz clock starts correctly
  6. Connect upstream host and confirm enumeration
  7. Test each downstream port one at a time
  8. Test simultaneous load and worst-case power
  9. Run corner-case and environmental checks
5. Errata-Specific Validation
  • Confirm RESET_N strategy suppresses the documented DP/SMBus power-up glitch risk
  • If certification-sensitive, verify configured bcdDevice field uses valid BCD values
  • Document selective suspend behavior; if needed, use global suspend strategy at system level
  • Test device detach/reattach behavior with at least one fast-reenumerating peripheral
6. Sample / Coverage Guidance
  • Minimum EVT coverage: 3 boards
  • Minimum DVT coverage: 5 to 10 boards across assembly lot spread
  • Test all connector populations and all supported power modes
7. Deliverables
  • Completed test log per board
  • Scope captures of startup, RESET_N, and one representative USB pair
  • Enumeration logs
  • Over-current and VBUS load data
  • Issue list with severity and owner
