PCB-First vs Enclosure-First Design

Briefly describe what it's like to design a complete product in Flux. Help me understand what the PCB-first and enclosure-first design workflows are like to work with.
Designing a complete product in Flux means developing the electronics, firmware, enclosure, and manufacturing details together, checking that they fit and work as a system.
  • PCB-first: Start with the circuit, then place and route the PCB, and design the enclosure around it. This works well when electrical performance drives the product; connector access, mounting, and enclosure size need attention early to avoid rework.
  • Enclosure-first: Start with the product’s shape, size, controls, and how people use it, then fit the PCB and electronics inside. This works well when appearance or a fixed space drives the design; tight packaging can require more electronics iterations.
In practice, both workflows involve back-and-forth between the board and enclosure—not a one-way handoff. I haven’t changed your project in this session; no design work was started, and execution stopped because your ACUs ran out.
