Copilot Overview

Flux Copilot is an AI assistant integrated directly into the Flux editor. It helps you design better PCBs faster by providing intelligent suggestions, answering questions, and assisting with common design tasks.

What Can Copilot Do?

Copilot is designed to assist with various aspects of PCB design:

Routing Assistance Get suggestions for trace routing, including optimal paths and layer selection. Copilot can help you understand routing constraints and suggest improvements.

Component Selection Ask Copilot to help find components that meet your specifications. It can search the component library and suggest alternatives based on availability and pricing.

Design Questions Ask questions about your design in natural language. Copilot understands circuit design concepts and can explain best practices.

Design Reviews Copilot can review your design and identify potential issues like power rating problems, missing connections, or manufacturability concerns.

How to Use Copilot

Opening Copilot Chat

Access Copilot through any of these methods:

  • Press Alt+C to open the Copilot chat panel
  • Click the Copilot icon in the right sidebar
  • Right-click on any element and select "Ask Copilot"

Asking Questions

Type your question in natural language. For example:

  • "What resistor value should I use for this LED?"
  • "Help me route this trace to avoid crosstalk"
  • "Check my design for common issues"

Using Specialized Tools

Copilot includes specialized tools you can invoke with @ commands:

  • @simulator - Run SPICE simulations on your circuit
  • @calculator - Perform calculations and extract datasheet values
  • @library - Search the component library
  • @help - Get help with Flux features

Best Practices

Be Specific The more context you provide, the better Copilot can help. Include relevant details about your design goals and constraints.

Review Suggestions Always review Copilot's suggestions before applying them. While Copilot is helpful, you're the expert on your specific design requirements.

Iterate Don't hesitate to ask follow-up questions or request clarification. Copilot maintains context throughout your conversation.
