PCB Design Questions

flux

I completed a fresh live audit without changing the circuit, placement, outline, or routing.
Confirmed
  • 0 airwires
  • USB clearance passes
  • ESP32 antenna keepout only flags its owning module
  • No verified defect was altered
Still preventing final approval
  • The board preflight returns a generic BOARD_DEFINITION_GENERIC validation error without identifying the underlying object.
  • Three protected USB breakout segments are reported as redundant but appear intentional; they were preserved.
  • Non-blocking advisories remain for D5 pin metadata and C6 decoupling placement.
An independent bare-PCB review completed, but I could not retrieve its final verdict. Therefore, the board is not yet certified for manufacturing. Execution stopped because your ACUs ran out.
"ESP32 PCB Fabrication" completed.

flux

I couldn’t retrieve and reconcile the executor’s fabrication report, so I made no additional changes and cannot honestly approve the board for manufacturing.
The last confirmed state still requires final verification of:
  • Zero airwires and unintended redundant traces
  • USB D+/D− breakout clearance and continuity
  • C6 decoupling warning
  • ESP32 antenna keepout warning
  • Complete fabrication DRC/DFM results
Do not order the PCB until these checks pass. Execution stopped because your ACUs ran out.
"ESP32 Board Review" completed.

flux

I couldn’t retrieve the completed ESP32 Board Review report, so I could not reconcile its findings or make any further verified corrections. The project remains in its previous state and is not certified for manufacturing.
The final approval still requires confirming:
  • 0 airwires and no unintended redundant traces
  • USB D+/D− continuity and minimum clearance
  • No blocking board-definition or fabrication DRC errors
  • C6 decoupling and ESP32 antenna-keepout findings are advisory only
Execution stopped because your ACUs ran out.

USB Preflight Fix Results
Scope and outcome
Localized USB programming-block preflight work only; no full-board autoroute or general routing pass was run. The four named single-pin blockers are cleared. The overall feasibility check is not clean: two connector-side differential-pair warnings remain.

Table

Assigned itemStatusEvidence / blocker
C9:P1 on FTDI_3V3CompletedAbsent from final auto-route board check.
U8:VCCIO on FTDI_3V3CompletedAbsent from final auto-route board check.
U8:RTS# on USB_RTS_NCompletedAbsent from final auto-route board check.
J1:VBUS_A pad-width anomalyCompletedAbsent from final check after local 0.55 mm pad escape.
Preserve protected USB breakoutCompletedBefore/after scene-tree reads show the same 12 protected Top traces, six per net, with identical endpoint coordinates and 0.30 mm widths.
No new placement overlaps or edge errorsCompletedNo components were moved, rotated, resized, flipped, added or removed; selected final placement/edge checks returned no findings. No new overlapping-copper error was introduced.
Eliminate remaining differential-pair anomalies / obtain completely clean feasibility checkFailedBoth warnings below survive a concrete 0.30 mm pair-width trial; that ineffective override was removed. U9 has not been proven to be a harmless checker artifact.

Retained changes
  1. Removed one existing 0.50 mm 3V3 diagonal trace from approximately (8.675, -4.12685) to (-1.000, -13.80185) mm. It physically crossed C9 and multiple U8 pads. Read-only Overlapping Copper checks confirmed real wrong-net shorts, rather than a support-part placement defect. This removal resolved seven overlap findings and all three requested blocked-pin findings without disturbing placement.
  2. Removed the nine traces in the two newly redundant 3V3 tail groups reported after that deletion. These orphan tails included copper through J1 ground/shield and R14; cleanup resolved five more pre-existing overlap findings. These were the cleanup consequences of the localized shorting-segment removal, not a general rip-up of working board routing. The 3V3 physical connection now needs rerouting in a later routing stage; its schematic connectivity is unchanged.
  3. Added only a local VBUS_A escape, two Top trace segments at 0.55 mm width: (-0.400, -18.275) → (-0.400, -19.900) → (0.400, -20.700) mm. This fits the existing 0.60 mm pad and presents an accessible stub. The original current-derived USB_VBUS_RAW trunk width (inspection: 1.0631 mm) was not reduced. This is an unfinished pad escape, not a completed VBUS connection or current/thermal validation.
Preserved state
  • All 50 component placements and all 42 schematic nets were left untouched.
  • J1 remains at (2.000, -22.850) mm, outward-facing down, with its required edge line at y = -25.000 mm.
  • U9 remains at (2.000, -15.200) mm, 90°, between J1 and U8.
  • U8 remains at (4.500, -9.300) mm, 180°; C9 remains at (-1.100, -12.600) mm, 180°.
  • Q5/Q6 and all non-USB placement remain untouched.
  • Board remains 60 × 50 mm, standard two-layer.
  • No manufacturing clearance rule was weakened. No retained routing-rule change.
  • No schematic connection, pair declaration, component pinout, footprint or value was changed.
  • The protected breakout was never deleted, regenerated, unlocked or edited.
Exact final preflight anomalies
Final auto-route feasibility check: 50 components, 42 nets, exactly two WARNING anomalies, both code ROUTING_UNROUTABLE_DIFFERENTIAL_PAIR_PINS on USB_DN_CONN / USB_DP_CONN:
  1. J1:DN2 and J1:DP2 — checker says these pins are blocked, impossible to route to, and will be removed from their routing nets.
  2. U9 connector-side I/O1 (pin 1) and I/O2 (pin 3) — checker gives the same blocked/impossible/removal message.
Artifact assessment
  • J1 duplicate data pads: the protected breakout demonstrably connects DN1↔DN2 and DP1↔DP2 and provides two free stub ends. The remaining duplicate-pad finding is consistent with a checker limitation around this intentional breakout. It does not mean the duplicate pads lack copper. However, the check still reports it and this run did not prove autorouter acceptance from the stubs.
  • U9 connector-side pins: not established as an intentional artifact. The protected breakout stops before U9; final airwire inspection still reports both stub-to-U9 connections as unrouted. Do not dismiss this warning or claim the USB path complete solely because the J1 breakout exists. A breakout-aware review or a separate, surgical connector-to-U9 escape/routing task remains needed.
  • A concrete 0.30 mm net-width trial on both connector-side nets did not remove either warning. Both trial width/preferred-width rules were removed, restoring original routing-rule state and inherited 90-ohm pair intent. No unvalidated impedance override was retained.
Final read-only verification
  • Final run_auto_route_check: four requested single-pin anomalies absent; exactly the two warnings above remain.
  • get_layout before/after protected-copper readback: same 12 protected 0.30 mm traces and identical endpoints. Final free stub ends remain DN (2.3067201030700706, -17.283178882786117) mm and DP (2.7037145987870463, -17.285269425879108) mm.
  • Final selected DRC review timestamp: 2026-09-16T21:07:26.628Z.
  • Overlapping Copper decreased from 14 to 2 errors. The remaining two were present before this work: C7:P2 versus IO0 copper, and R10:P2 versus GPIO25_LOAD1_DRIVE copper. They were left outside this scoped repair.
  • Final Airwires review: 28 error entries; board routing remains incomplete by design. In particular, the removed shorting 3V3 path requires later rerouting.
  • Final Redundant Traces review: 3 warning groups. Two are pre-existing protected USB breakout groups (Trace 2312, Trace 6035) and were intentionally preserved. The third (Trace 3b12, two segments) is the intentional new VBUS pad escape awaiting continuation; do not delete it merely to silence dangling/redundant-copper reporting.
  • Selected component-body-overlap, pad-access, component-outside-board, edge-placement and protected-intrusion checks returned no findings.
Handoff: the localized four-blocker repair is complete, but the broader goal of a completely clean auto-route feasibility check is not complete. Preserve the breakout and VBUS escape; resolve or independently validate the two residual pair warnings before claiming route readiness.
